ICW/Vulnerable Adults. This position has regular contact with or control over Indian Children and Vulnerable Adults. In compliance with Federal Law, this position will not be filled by an applicant with any felonious offense or any of two or more misdemeanor offenses under Federal, State, or Tribal Law involving crimes of violence; sexual assault, molestation, exploitation, contact, or prostitution; crimes against persons; or offenses committed against children.

*This position requires a fingerprint check, which is a standard procedure for many jobs, especially those involving children or vulnerable populations.

This position is scheduled for 32 hours per week.

NATURE OF WORK 

The pharmacy technician assists the pharmacist with dispensing functions, processing refill requests, and performing patient triage at the pharmacy window. The pharmacy technician is also responsible for assisting with the preparation work necessary to process prescriptions, maintaining pharmaceutical stock, and pharmaceutical purchasing.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

  • Assist patients and providers by taking in-person, fax, electronic, and phone orders for prescription refills.
  • Provide assistance, answer questions, and distribute over-the-counter medications and refills to patients under the direction of a registered pharmacist.
  • Provide assistance and refer in-person, written, and phone requests for information and advice according to appropriate local, tribal, state or federal regulations.
  • Interact with other pharmacies and medical offices to process refills.
  • Document allergies and take medication histories under supervision.
  • Create and update patient's health, eligibility and insurance information electronically.
  • Collect financial information and record transactions with patients as needed.
  • Coordinate insurance billing and communicate with insurance carriers including third party administrators to obtain payment for prescription claims.
  • Troubleshoot third party prescription claims questions including on-line rejections and plan parameters questions.
  • At point of sale, verify that customer receives correct prescriptions.
  • Prepare medications and supplies for dispensing, including:
                  Pre-packing bulk medications.
                  Compounding ointments, creams oral solutions and other medications.
                  Packaging and preparing drugs being used in clinical investigations.
                  Preparing prescriptions.
                  Checking continuous unit dose medications.
 
  • Fill patient medication cassettes.
  • Assist the pharmacist with filling and labeling prescriptions.
  • Retrieve copies of physician orders and return them to the Pharmacy or process them through the pharmacy computer system.
  • Enter prescription orders into the pharmacy/clinic computer system.
  • Prepare manual and robotic prescription orders in preparation for dispensing under direct supervision of registered pharmacist.
  • Control and audit narcotics/stock substance.
  • Order, receive, stock, inventory, and monitory reorder levels of pharmaceuticals and supplies.
  • Review prices and purchase contracts of different drug suppliers to get the lowest cost.
  • Process invoices for pharmacist review prior to forwarding to Financial Services Department for payment.
  • Screen and direct telephone calls.
  • Maintain an electronic service log of all telephone calls and complete follow-up history.
  • Develop trending reports for pharmacy service.
  • Assist pharmacist in scheduling and maintaining workflow.
  • Perform monthly inspections, maintain workload records, and collect quality assurance data.
  • Assist other pharmacy technicians and assist with training new employees as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of and ability to be sensitive to American Indian customs, traditions, and culture.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy practice operations.
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical drug therapies.
  • Knowledge of standard pharmacy equipment.
  • Knowledge of proper controls of toxic substances.
  • Knowledge of loss prevention techniques.
  • Knowledge of insurance billing practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of standard office equipment and computer hardware and software .
  • Knowledge, skill, and ability necessary to operate pharmacy/clinic computer system .
  • Knowledge, skill, and ability necessary to provide care to all age groups .
  • Knowledge and ability necessary to collect and document health record information .
  • Ability to prepare medications and supplies for dispensing.
  • Ability to make pharmacist-assisted clinical decisions regarding drug therapy.
  • Ability to interact professionally with physicians, nurses, patients and insurance providers.
  • Ability to organize and perform work effectively and accurately.
  • Ability to follow facility policies and attend in-service training as directed.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduation from an accredited pharmacy technician program.
  • Current Washington State Pharmacy Technician License.
  • Must successfully pass pre-employment drug screening and criminal history background check.
