The Niskayuna Central School District is now accepting applications for a probationary Senior Groundsworker.
ASSIGNMENT: District-wide; 12 months per year; 40 hours per week.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is supervisory and manual work involving the conditioning and maintenance of grounds and recreation areas. The work is performed under general supervision with considerable leeway allowed for planning and carrying out tasks. General supervision is exercised over the work of grounds workers or other assistants. Performs a variety of related tasks as required.
- Leads and participates in the planting and care of lawns, hedges, trees, shrubs and flowerbeds;
- Leads and participates in snow and leaf removal;
- Leads and participates in the marking and maintenance of recreation facilities and areas such as greenhouses, gardens, golf courses, etc.;
- Leads and participates in grass-cutting activities;
- Leads and supervises general maintenance activities;
- Drives a truck as required;
- Operates a variety of equipment such as mowers, seeders, trimmers and snow plows;
- Supervises the maintenance and repair of equipment used in grounds-keeping activities;
- Performs a variety of related tasks as required.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL
CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the maintenance of grounds and recreation areas; ability to plan and supervise the work of others; ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Job Qualifications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2-3 years supervisory experience
- Experience maintaining athletic fields (including artificial and natural turf)
- Eligible for or currently holds a pesticide applicator license/certification.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Two years of experience in grounds maintenance activities.
