What are the responsibilities and job description for the Independent Medical Sales Representative, Operating Room (Chicago) position at NinoMed?
Overview
Independent Contractor (1099) position. Commission only. No base salary or benefits.
Sell a product that is already approved. Just go grow it.
NinoMed is a surgeon-founded medical device company based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. We make single-use patient positioning and Trendelenburg positioning products for the operating room: Safe-T-Secure®, the STS-BodyPad™ line, STS-Head-To-Toe™, and Cush-In It™. The company was founded in 2014 and named after the founder’s father, a pediatrician.
We are looking for independent sales representatives to grow our Chicago-area business. Our products are already through value analysis and on contract at multiple Chicago-area hospital systems. You will not spend nine months fighting a VAC committee. The approval work is done. The opportunity is getting into the OR, getting the product in front of the people who actually pull it for a case, and turning approved accounts into reordering accounts.
Compensation
This is an independent contractor role paid on commission only. There is no base salary, and no benefits are provided. Commissions are uncapped and tiered by product and by how long the account has been active, at higher rates than our W-2 sales role. We will walk you through the actual commission rate table on the first call.
Independent representatives may not represent or sell competing patient positioning or securing products while contracted with NinoMed. Non-competing product lines are permitted.
What You’ll Do
- Cover cases and run in-services at approved facilities across the Chicago metro.
- Convert accounts that are approved but under-utilized into steady, predictable reorder volume.
- Build working relationships with OR managers, circulating nurses, surgical techs, materials management, and surgeons.
- Maintain your own vendor credentialing and OR access at the facilities you cover.
- Submit orders accurately so commissions are paid cleanly and on time.
- Identify the next tier of facilities in the region worth pursuing once the approved base is producing.
What We’re Looking For
Required:
- Two or more years selling into hospital operating rooms: disposables, positioning, instruments, or surgical capital.
- Current vendor credentialing (symplr, Vendormate, Green Security, or equivalent) at Chicago-area hospitals, or the ability to complete it quickly.
- Comfort scrubbing in and being present for cases.
- Your own reliable transportation. This is a drive-around territory, and Chicago traffic is part of the job.
- Ability to operate as an independent business, including your own business entity, insurance, and expenses.
- Ability to commit to representing NinoMed without carrying competing positioning or securing products.
Strongly preferred:
- Existing relationships at Northwestern Medicine, Rush, UChicago Medicine, UI Health, Advocate Health Care, Endeavor Health, Loyola Medicine, or Ascension.
- Experience with patient positioning, OR tables and accessories, or surgical safety products.
- A track record of growing accounts that were already open and opening new ones.
