What This Role Looks Like in Our School
At Lakeside High School, a Special Education Paraprofessional is part of the daily rhythm of the building. You work alongside a teacher to support students who need extra structure, guidance, or hands-on assistance to move through their day. Some support is academic. Some is social. At times it is practical and immediate. The work is steady and personal. Students come to know you. They rely on you.
You might help a student stay organized in class, step in when frustration builds, or assist with routines that allow them to participate fully in school life. Progress can be gradual. It is real. You are trusted to notice what a student needs in the moment and respond in a way that keeps them learning and connected. There is room to ask questions, to lean on your team, and to grow into the work.
This role matters because it removes barriers that would otherwise stand in the way of a student’s day. It brings consistency to students who benefit from it. You are not on the sidelines. You are part of the team that makes school feel possible.
Salary and Benefits
The hourly rate range for this position is $19.47 – $25.40. Initial placement is at Step 1 of the Nine Mile Classified Public Employees Association Collective Bargaining Agreement unless documented, verifiable experience is provided in accordance with the contract. The current Collective Bargaining Agreement and salary schedules are available on the Human Resources page at www.9mile.org.
Employees accrue up to twelve (12) sick leave days per year. Employees who work fewer than 12 months receive a prorated sick leave allocation (for example, a 10-month employee receives 10 days). Up to three (3) Annual Leave days are available each year, prorated by scheduled hours, and may be used for personal absence or accumulated for cash-out.
Employees anticipated to work 630 hours or more per year are eligible for benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB). Standard SEBB benefits include medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, and long-term disability coverage.
