Part-time Budtender

Nightjar is building a team of thoughtful, dynamic, collaborative and flexible budtenders to join our cannabis start-up and help to shape and define the top customer experience in New Jersey cannabis. In this heavily customer-facing dispensary role, Nightjar’s budtenders guide a diverse customer base in selecting appropriate cannabis products, educate about cannabis consumption, prepare and pack orders, and support the company in attaining its sales, community and operational goals while maintaining operational compliance.

The ideal candidate is personable and empathetic and excels in people interactions, making others feel valued and comfortable. They are passionate about sharing their expertise to help customers make informed choices, and skilled in sales, ensuring that customers receive enticing product recommendations. They are a natural team player, and actively contribute to creating a positive, inclusive and productive work environment.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service & Hospitality:

• Greet and assist customers in a friendly and knowledgeable manner
• Provide product recommendations based on customer preferences and needs
• Educate customers on cannabis strains, products, and consumption methods
• Build relationships and connect with customers to build loyalty and community
• Support a positive and welcoming atmosphere within the dispensary

Product Knowledge:

• Maintain in-depth knowledge of all products available in the dispensary
• Stay informed about industry trends and new cannabis products
• Assist customers in making informed choices by explaining product characteristics and possible effects

Sales and Transactions:

• Accurately handle cash and electronic transactions
• Process customer orders and provide receipts
• Maintain cash register and inventory accuracy
• Adhere to all security and cash handling procedures
• Pick and pack online and in-store orders

Compliance:

• Strictly follow company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and NJ cannabis regulations
• Verify customer IDs and ensure they meet legal age requirements
• Monitor and enforce purchase limits
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace
• Maintain personal sanitation and hygiene standards, including regular hand washing

Teamwork:

• Collaborate with fellow Budtenders and dispensary staff
• Assist with inventory management, restocking, and merchandising
• Participate in team meetings and training sessions
• Support community outreach and marketing initiatives, including volunteer opportunities
• Provide feedback and share ideas to promote continuous improvement and a positive work environment

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Prior retail or customer service experience, preferably in the cannabis industry
• Knowledge of cannabis strains, products, and consumption methods preferred
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, start-up environment and handle multiple tasks
• Familiarity with POS systems (Cannabis POS systems, like Dutchie, preferred)
• Must be eligible to possess a Cannabis Business Identification card from the state
• Minimum age of 21

Other Requirements:

• Local to Bloomfield/Newark/Montclair/Essex County area
• Evening and weekend availability required.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 pounds
• Possess a valid driver's license or state ID card
