Under the general direction of the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) Supervisor, the Public Safety Telecommunicator supports the Nicollet County Sheriff’s Office by providing quality services that promote and protect the safety, security, and well-being of all the people in the community. This position coordinates incoming 911 communications and other activities to support public safety personnel in the interest of public safety. The position also receives emergency and non-emergency 911 calls from the public, and dispatches, monitors, and responds to public safety personnel.

This position is scheduled to work rotating 12-hour shifts. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
  • Creates and maintains accurate electronic records and logs of activity as required using a Computer Aided Dispatch system (CAD)
  • Monitors and operates multiple ARMER radio talk groups and conventional radio channels. Receives and processes officer requests for various services and updates responding units regarding status, location, and pertinent information throughout the duration of an incident. Uses various systems to page emergency responders and conduct pager tests. Communicates with emergency responders and queries driver's licenses, license plates, and related searches
  • Monitors cameras, alarms, and security doors for the safety and security of the facility, staff, and public
  • Operates multiple computerized mapping systems. Assists responding units with directions to scenes and monitors the location of emergency response vehicles from law enforcement, fire, and emergency services
  • Operates the community notification system for emergency and non-emergency incidents. Sends alerts to the public when in imminent danger or during emergencies that may affect the public’s health, safety, or welfare
  • Receives emergency and non-emergency 911 calls and texts. Performs multiple tasks simultaneously within critical time constraints and under pressure of emergency conditions. Responds to requests for service requiring law enforcement, medical, fire, and/or rescue services per established policies. Gathers and evaluates relevant information from all available sources to establish priorities as outlined in the standard operating procedure manual. Provides public service information including weather and road conditions and makes referrals to mental health resources and other public and governmental agencies as appropriate
  • Receives transmitted requests from field personnel for emergency assistance and determines type and level of response necessary
  • Requests, disseminates, enters, verifies, modifies and cancels protected data through computerized terminals linked to State, Federal, Interstate and local Law Enforcement systems to include but not limited to; driver and motor vehicle information, NCIC (National Crime Information Center) 'hot files'; warrant files, criminal histories; persons, property, vehicle and other restricted data files
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
  • Ability to obtain PsPortals Security and Single Sign-on certification within six (6) months of hire
  • Ability to obtain Telecommunicator CPR certification within six (6) months of hire
  • Ability to complete FEMA training within six (6) months of hire
  • Ability to complete ARMER Radio/Statusboard training within six (6) months of hire
