Finance Controller (CFO Successor) – Aerospace/Defense

About the Role
We are seeking a strategic and results-driven Finance Controller to join our leadership team. This role is designed as a successor to the CFO, offering a unique opportunity to step into an executive leadership position.
The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in aerospace/defense manufacturing, strong expertise in government contracting compliance, and the ability to confidently present financials to the Board of Directors.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all financial operations including budgeting, forecasting, accounting, reporting, and auditing
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes with accuracy and timeliness
- Prepare and analyze financial statements in compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards
- Manage cash flow, working capital, and financial risk to optimize profitability
- Lead and coordinate internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with controls
- Develop and execute financial strategies aligned with company growth objectives
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (operations, engineering, procurement)
- Ensure compliance with government contracting regulations (FAR, DFARS, CAS)
- Oversee and optimize ERP systems (SAP preferred)
- Present financial reports and insights to executive leadership and Board of Directors
- Mentor and lead a high-performing finance team
Qualifications
- CPA (required) | MBA (preferred)
- 10 years of experience in accounting/finance, preferably in aerospace or defense manufacturing
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance
- Hands-on experience with government contracts (FAR, DFARS, CAS)
- Proven leadership and team management experience
- Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems
- Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills
- Ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels
