Nickerson and Associates LLC is a Seattle-based consulting firm specializing in applying economics, statistics, and computer-related analyses to litigation, business, and public policy issues for more than 45 years. We provide analytical services to a broad range of clients, including law firms, businesses of all sizes, government entities, the U.S. Department of Justice, labor and trade organizations, and others. Nickerson & Associates is also often called upon to provide expert testimony in jury and bench trials, particularly for class action cases involving large amounts of data. In related capacities, we have been integrally involved in mediation and settlement discussions and have served as Settlement Administrators in a number of class action cases.


Job Description

Nickerson & Associates is seeking an Analyst who either has experience in data analysis or would be able to learn programmatic data analysis skills on the job. Those with accounting / financial analysis experience are especially encouraged to apply. The Analyst will conduct data analyses working with a variety of file types and software packages such as SAS and Excel. The Analyst will conduct analyses on large datasets to identify trends and patterns, calculate violations and exposure based on US labor laws, and create useful tools and visualizations to convey relevant figures to clients. Financial experience is sought for cases involving lost wages, tax neutralization, payroll auditing, analysis of financial records, valuations, and other similar topics. Analysts may also perform additional statistical analyses including estimating distributions, performing regression analyses, and testing for differences in means across populations. The Analyst will summarize analyses and results in formal reports, memos, demonstrative exhibits, or slide shows. The Analyst may also assist with document management, internet research, and data entry as needed.


Specific projects may include, but are not limited to, calculating lost wages resulting from unlawful termination, programmatically running full audits of payroll records for hundreds of employees in order to determine liability under specific legal claims, and designing quantitative models in SAS and/or Excel to estimate the economic impacts of government policy.


The Analyst will work independently with frequent collaboration with other team members. In addition to on-the-job training, a significant amount of self-learning will be expected when necessary. The Analyst will report to the Director of Operations.


Required Education / Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, or other related analytical field with a GPA of 3.4 or higher
  • Experience or significant coursework in Accounting is preferred
  • Experience working in Excel creating charts, tables, and summarizing data
  • Strong writing, oral communication, and English language skills
  • Experience in SAS, SQL, Python, or R is a major plus, but not required
  • Experience with US labor law or analysis for litigation is a plus
  • Experience in data visualization software such as Power BI or Tableau is a plus
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member. Self-motivated
  • Must live in the greater Seattle area


Dates

Compensation

Depending on the level of skill and prior experience, the typical base pay range for this position at the start of employment is expected to be between $70,000 - $100,000 per year. Other benefits include medical insurance, paid vacation time, retirement contribution matching, commuting travel reimbursement, and other benefits.
