Job Description

Position Title:    Toolmaker I

Employee Type: Hourly

Position Summary:

Fabricate complex tools and fixtures including assemblies, gages and prototype components

Scope/Supervision and Interaction:

? Reports to the Tool Services Supervisor.

? Works closely with manufacturing engineers, quality inspectors, and production staff.

?· Provides hands-on support for projects, troubleshooting, and process improvements.

Essential Functions:

§  Select raw material per drawing specification and prep for machining

§  Plan process sequence and rough machining stock allowance for heat treatment and finish machining

§  Set up and operate manual lathes, mills, surface grinders, CNC machine tools and other equipment as required.

§  Perform hand-finishing, polishing, and fitting as required.

§  Achieve specified dimensions, form and surface finish

§  Adhere to determined safety and cleanliness standards

§  Complete all required process documentation to maintain quality standards

§  Assist manufacturing and engineering in problem solving

§  When necessary, work to sketches and/or verbal instructions to provide timely support to manufacturing

§  Adhere to established timelines

§  Perform minor machine maintenance

§  Perform all other incidental and related duties as required and assigned

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

·         A.S. – Integrated Manufacturing Technology (Machine Tool) or completion of certified Tool & Die Apprenticeship program or equivalent experience

·         If degree has been obtained, amount of Tool & Die experience required to develop an intermediate level of knowledge – generally 4 years

·         With a high school diploma/GED, experience to gain an intermediate level of knowledge – generally 6 years

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

·         Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

·         Shop math and basic trigonometry

·         Basic comprehension of CNC programming and operation

·         Knowledge of working properties of alloy steels, tool steels, cast iron, aluminum and plastics

·         Working knowledge of heat treatment processes

·         Capable of using common metrology tools

Job related demands (i.e. physical, travel):

·         Flexibility to alter work schedule for timely completion of projects

·         Prioritization of multiple projects to meet operational goals

·         Ability to handle sensitive and confidential issues with tact and diplomacy

·         Ability to lift and move objects up to 35 lbs. without assistance and occasionally up to 50 lbs following company safe lifting protocol

·         Ability to stand and/or sit for long periods of time

·         Ability to work in an environment with powdered metal, dust, noise, oils and chemicals
