Nicholas & Associates, Inc., a leader in construction services across the education, private development, and multi-family markets, is seeking a Construction Superintendent to oversee day-to-day project operations in Madison, Wisconsin. This role leads and coordinates teams of contractors, architects, engineers, and owners to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget, while upholding the highest standards of safety, quality, and code compliance.
Primary Responsibilities
- Open the construction site each day and secure it at the end of the day.
- Conduct daily site walks to monitor activities and support future planning.
- Lead and manage the on-site construction team.
- Establish goals, schedules, and completion timelines for the construction team.
- Partner with the Project Manager to lead weekly construction progress meetings.
- Collaborate with contractors, engineers, architects, Project Managers, and owners.
- Ensure contractors execute and comply with their contracted scope of work.
- Identify work outside contractors’ scope and communicate issues promptly to the Project Manager, General Superintendent, and project owner.
- Ensure all work meets quality standards and complies with safety and health regulations.
- Maintain accurate records, including daily field reports and Requests for Information (RFIs).
- Coordinate building inspections with state and local authorities and manage the end-of-project punch list to ensure completion of all items.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Site Superintendent, Project Manager, or General Contractor, preferably in industrial or commercial construction.
- OSHA-30 certification.
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents accurately.
- Skilled in using scheduling software, Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), and digital documentation (e.g., uploading site photos).
- Experience in multi-story residential, municipal, educational, or automotive construction preferred.
- Highly organized with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving skills and professional judgment, with the ability to maintain confidentiality, manage emotions, and respond effectively to questions.
- Excellent communication skills, including writing, presenting, and participating in meetings.
- Professional demeanor with strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to work in both office and construction site environments, including walking, standing, and occasionally lifting 30–50 pounds, with flexibility to work extended hours or weekends as needed.
