The Product Engineer plays a critical role in the development, design, and continuous improvement of custom and standard electric heating solutions. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this position works closely with Sales, Manufacturing, Quality, and customers to develop innovative products that meet technical, performance, and manufacturability requirements. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in electrical engineering along with the ability to solve complex technical challenges and support products throughout their lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop custom and standard electric heating products based on customer specifications and application requirements.
- Apply electrical engineering principles to the design, analysis, testing, and improvement of resistance heating elements and thermal systems.
- Collaborate with customers and internal teams to understand application requirements and recommend technical solutions.
- Create and maintain engineering documentation including drawings, specifications, Bills of Materials (BOMs), routings, and engineering change notices (ECNs).
- Utilize SolidWorks and other engineering software to develop product designs and revisions.
- Support new product introductions from concept through production, ensuring designs are manufacturable, reliable, and cost-effective.
- Troubleshoot product performance issues and provide technical support for manufacturing, quality, and customers.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for product-related issues.
- Evaluate existing products and identify opportunities for design improvements, cost reductions, and enhanced performance.
- Participate in prototype builds, validation testing, and product qualification activities.
- Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering to improve production processes and product manufacturability.
- Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, customer specifications, and internal quality requirements.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and participate in cross-functional engineering projects.
- Promote a safe work environment by following company safety policies and participating in safety initiatives.
What We Are Looking For
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required. Electrical Engineering degree with significant mechanical design experience will also be considered.
- 3 years of product engineering or product development experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience designing or supporting electrical products, heating elements, thermal systems, or related electromechanical products is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals including circuits, resistance, power calculations, and thermal applications.
- Experience interpreting electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks or comparable CAD software.
- Experience with ERP systems and maintaining Bills of Materials (BOMs) is preferred.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and customers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in custom product design or engineered-to-order manufacturing.
- Knowledge of resistance heating technologies or thermal management products.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience supporting design verification, product testing, and validation.
- Understanding of UL, CSA, CE, or other applicable electrical standards is a plus.
