What are the responsibilities and job description for the Registered Nurse, Director of Intensive Care Unit position at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center?
Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center is actively seeking a full-time ICU Director.
MAIN FUNCTION:
A registered professional nurse in a middle management position who provides leadership, overall management, and strategic and operational oversight for designated service lines.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
He/she maintains 24 hour responsibility, accountability, and administrative authority for all patient care activities, department operations, and staff functions. He/she collaborates with all members of the health care team to effectively coordinate the delivery of patient care for specific aged based patient populations. He/she will be responsible for being an occasional house supervisor.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Effectively guides, directs, and monitors clinical nursing practice for specific patient populations to assure that nursing care delivery is performed within established standards of practice, quality, and performance.
2. Directs, develops, and implements departmental and organizational-wide processes that enhance and improve departmental functions, reduce cost and improve quality and patient outcomes.
3. Consistently demonstrates professional behaviors and leadership skills that are in support of the vision, mission, and philosophy of Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center at both the organizational and departmental level.
4. Directs the development and implementation of the annual budget for manhours, operators, and capital equipment. Prepares biweekly and monthly budget variance analysis.
5. Participates in recruitment activities of nursing staff for areas of responsibility. Maintains responsibility for retention of qualified nursing personnel for areas of responsibility through coaching, mentoring, and consistently demonstrating strong leadership behaviors.
6. Communicates effectively and functions in a collaborative manner within all levels of the organization.
7. Actively participates in designated committee membership within the organization.
8. Evaluates staff performance at appropriate intervals as established per hospital policy with written evaluations that include goal setting.
9. Other duties as requested or assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE:
¨ Graduate of a college or university school of registered nursing.
¨ Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing Required.
¨ Specialty certification preferred.
¨ Master of Science degree desired.
LICENSURE:
¨ Current New York State Professional Nurse licensure
SKILLS:
¨ Demonstrated leadership and management skills.
¨ Demonstrated exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
¨ Maintains unit specific competency as per unit based staff.
EXPERIENCE:
¨ Minimum of 2 years of recent clinical experience relevant to patient population.
¨ Minimum 5 years of previous management experience at the Department Manager level or above.
