Associate Executive Director
SchoolCare is seeking an experienced, collaborative leader to serve as Associate Executive Director. This senior leadership role reports to and works closely with the Executive Director and provides cross-functional leadership across operations, employee development, member programs, governance, financial analysis, and continual improvement.
SchoolCare provides health benefit programs to public-sector employers and employees. The ideal candidate will bring broad leadership experience along with an understanding of employee health benefits, financial management, and the unique environment in which municipalities, school districts, and other public entities operate.

What You'll Do
The Associate Executive Director will:
- Partner with the leadership team in advancing SchoolCare's strategic priorities and organizational goals.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and support to staff, with an emphasis on employee development, performance, collaboration, and accountability.
- Analyze organizational operations, processes, responsibilities, and costs and work with staff to identify opportunities for continual improvement.
- Bring executive-level knowledge and perspective to SchoolCare's self-funded employee health benefit programs.
- Evaluate program performance, member value, service quality, cost effectiveness, and opportunities for improvement.
- Provide additional financial and analytical expertise, including working knowledge of accrual accounting, GASB principles, budgeting, financial reporting, and actuarial concepts.
- Support strong Board governance and assist the Executive Director in providing information and analysis for Board and committee decision-making.
- Build effective relationships with members and stakeholders and communicate complex financial, benefit, and operational information clearly to a variety of audiences.
- Understand and support SchoolCare's joint labor/management partnership.
- Monitor emerging issues, opportunities, and industry developments.
What We're Looking For
We are seeking a well-rounded senior leader who demonstrates:
- Strong leadership and people-development skills, including experience leading, coaching, and developing employees and building effective teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with employees, Board members, members, public officials, consultants, vendors, and other stakeholders.
- Employee health benefits experience, preferably including self-funded health benefit plan administration or operations.
- Strong financial acumen, including knowledge of accrual accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, GASB applications, and actuarial concepts.
- Experience evaluating complex information and recommendations and translating them into practical organizational decisions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and an interest in continual organizational improvement.
- Sound judgment and the ability to work effectively across multiple organizational functions.
- An understanding of public-sector organizations, governance, and decision-making.
- An understanding of labor/management relations and collective bargaining environments.
Qualifications
- Five or more years of progressively responsible management or executive leadership experience.
- Experience with nonprofit, public-sector, employee-benefit, risk-pool, municipal, school district, or similar organizations is strongly preferred.
- Experience with self-funded employee health benefits is strongly preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of relevant education and professional experience will be considered.
About the Role
The Associate Executive Director complements the expertise of SchoolCare's existing leadership team by adding cross-functional leadership, analytical capacity and subject matter perspective. Functional directors retain responsibility and accountability for their respective areas.
The Associate Executive Director will support the Executive Director in ensuring that SchoolCare operates effectively, develops its employees, manages its resources responsibly, and provides exceptional value and service to its members.
