Boat Mechanic

Duties

• Perform routine maintenance and comprehensive repairs on marine engines, propulsion systems, and mechanical components using hand tools, power tools, and specialized diagnostic equipment
• Interpret technical schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings to accurately troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues
• Conduct electrical diagnostics on ship electrical systems, including troubleshooting marine electrical systems and performing repairs using multimeters such as ohmmeters
• Fabricate and modify parts using sheet metal work, welding, soldering, and rigging techniques to meet specific repair or assembly requirements
• Utilize precision measuring instruments like calipers and other tools to ensure components meet strict specifications during installation or repair
• Maintain ship electrical systems by inspecting wiring harnesses, connectors, circuit breakers, and electrical panels for faults or wear
• Follow safety protocols by properly using personal protective equipment (PPE) during all maintenance activities while adhering to industry standards for water transportation equipment maintenance

Skills

• Proven service technician experience with marine engines or heavy machinery maintenance
• Strong understanding of schematics, technical drawings, and engineering troubleshooting methods
• Electrical experience including diagnosing faults in complex electrical systems on ships or vessels
• Mechanical knowledge related to marine propulsion systems, diesel mechanics, and mechanical systems repair
• Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, soldering irons, calipers, and other precision instruments
• Experience with rigging, fabrication, sheet metal work, and assembly processes for marine applications
• Ability to interpret technical manuals and schematics accurately for effective troubleshooting and repairs
• Knowledge of ship electrical systems maintenance combined with experience in water transportation equipment upkeep
• Familiarity with maintenance, repair & operations (MRO) practices specific to marine environments
• Experience with military-grade equipment or standards is a plus but not required
• Strong customer service skills to communicate effectively with clients or team members about repairs or maintenance needs
• Ability to lift heavy objects safely while maintaining proper use of PPE during all tasks
