POSITION: Medication Room Team Lead

SUPERVISOR: Health and Medical Services Manager
EMPLOYMENT: Full-Time
SHIFT: 40 Hours Per Week
SUMMARY: The Medication Room Team Read supervises all medication room functions including ordering stock medications and supplies, staff scheduling, managing on-site medical services, conducting monthly audits, incident report monitoring and maintaining safe and efficient processes. They manage medical concerns under the supervision of the nurse manager, and they arrange for client medical care and medical appointments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
- Maintains weekly staff schedule and assures appropriate coverage.
- Order and replace supplies as needed to maintain stock level.
- Conducts regular staff meetings and trainings.
- Assists the nurse manager in completing assigned audits for quality monitoring.
- Supervises client self-administration of medication.
- Assures clients adhere to medication schedule.
- Conducts daily counts of client medication.
- Monitors clients’ medical conditions and arranges appropriate medical care.
- Records significant events/concerns as related to client medical issues.
- Assists in managing crisis situations.
- Attends monthly All Staff meeting.
- Provides emergency direction as appropriate.
- Assures various forms are updated and supplied for client’s use
- Provides information to clients related to medical resources, i.e. Parkland, Stewpot, etc.
- Assists clients with moderate health care problems, e.g. blood-pressure checks, etc.
- Interfaces with physicians to provide appropriate information and documentation, as necessary.
- Monitors and coordinates providers visits for clients.
- Maintains accurate client Medication Administration Records (MAR).
- Complies with all licensing and regulatory standards for medication storage, disposal, counting, reconciliation, etc.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:
- Gathering and documenting client health histories and current medical symptoms.
- Recording significant events related to clients’ medical issues.
- Managing medical crises and providing direction to staff according to a crisis management model.
- Ensuring the medication room procedures concur with all licensing standards.
- Ordering stock medications and supplies.
- Completing medication room audits such as first aid box audit and medication administration record audit.
- Maintaining positive working relationships with local vendors such as the pharmacy and lab.
- Ability to take accurate vital signs.
- Ability to supervise client mediation administration and accurately record this in client medical records.
- Ability to accurately count medications.
- Ability to transcribe orders.
- Ability to maintain client confidentiality
- Ability to accurately to spell or look words up in dictionary.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Experience with chemical dependency issues preferred. Three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as doctor’s notes/orders, licensure standards, etc. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to present information effectively to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization in one-on-one and small group situations.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of weight, measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to solve practical problems involving a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certification as a medical assistant is preferred.
