Summary
The Medication Room Assistant – PRN (part time, as needed) supports the safe, accurate, and efficient operation of the medication room. This role supervises client self-administration of medication(s), monitors medical concerns, and arranges for/coordinates client medical care. This role focuses on medication preparation support, inventory management for stock medications, and documentation of client medications.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintain client files according to HHSC and Joint Commission requirements.
- Maintain and update client appointment schedule(s) for medical providers, counselors, medication pick up, and outside service providers (med van, dental van, etc).
- Order and replace supplies as needed to maintain stock levels.
- Observe and document client self-administration of medication(s) in client’s e-Mar in Welligent, including any missed medication(s) and the reason(s) why the medication was missed.
- Assists supervisor in completing required audits (i.e. first aid box audit) for quality monitoring and compliance.
- Attend team meetings and training as required.
- Record significant events related to client medical issues.
- Coordinate with local vendors such as pharmacies or labs.
- Ensure the medication room is clean and organized.
- Maintain accurate medication inventory, including counts of controlled substances, with minimal errors.
- Receive, log, and store medication deliveries according to protocol.
- Monitor expiration dates and remove outdated or discontinued medications.
- Ensure proper storage conditions, including temperature logs and security of medications.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Completion of a medical assistant, pharmacy technician, or related program preferred.
- Experience in a healthcare, behavioral health, or substance abuse treatment setting preferred.
- Familiarity with medication handling, inventory systems, or pharmacy procedures preferred.
