Location: Barrington, IL (Onsite)

Schedule: Monday–Thursday | 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM (30–35 hours per week)

Compensation: $35–$40/hour

About the Opportunity

Our client, a well-established property management firm based in Barrington, Illinois, is seeking a Property Accountant to join their team on a contract basis. This individual will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting activities for an assigned portfolio of commercial real estate properties and will serve as a key financial partner for those assets.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional with commercial property accounting experience who enjoys working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment while taking ownership of a portfolio.

Responsibilities

• Manage the full accounting cycle for an assigned portfolio of commercial properties.
• Perform monthly bank reconciliations and ensure all accounts are accurately reconciled.
• Execute monthly close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger review.
• Review Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable transactions to ensure accuracy and proper coding.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.
• Analyze financial data and investigate variances as needed.
• Partner with property management and other internal departments to ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Assist with accounting related to property acquisitions and dispositions.
• Maintain accurate financial records and documentation.
• Support special projects and additional accounting responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in Accounting required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably within commercial property management or real estate.
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, month-end close, and financial statement preparation.
• Experience with bank reconciliations, journal entries, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Property accounting software experience preferred; Yardi experience is a strong plus.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
• Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Preferred Experience

• Commercial real estate or property management accounting.
• Experience managing the accounting for multiple properties or entities.
• Exposure to acquisitions and dispositions within a real estate environment.
• Familiarity with property management accounting systems, particularly Yardi.
