NextPhase.ai data management services are tailored to achieve our client’s business outcomes thus enabling our clients to focus on monetizing their data while we handle data operations. Nextphase.ai provides you with a dynamic and fun work environment and encourages you to use creative thinking to solve client challenges.
Position Summary
We're a consulting and services firm that builds and deploys applied AI systems. In this role you sit across the table from executives, identify and scope the bottlenecks, then architect and build the solution in their environment with their data and constraints.
This isn't a heads-down product/SaaS engineering role. You're trusted with the fuzzy problems and split your time between architecting and shipping production backend AI solutions and leading client calls solo. Reach out if you like owning a problem end to end, from the first executive call to a system in production.
What you'll do
- Own systems, not features: design the architecture, make the tradeoff calls, and own the technical outcome from discovery through delivery.
- Lead client calls solo: run technical discovery, walk stakeholders through tradeoffs, push back diplomatically, and keep non-technical audiences oriented.
- Design and ship production AI systems: LLM applications, RAG pipelines, agents, evaluation harnesses, fine-tuning, and the surrounding data and integration work.
- Work within the client's stack, data, and security and compliance requirements, making pragmatic calls when the ideal solution doesn't fit.
- Take on the fuzzy problems: turn ambiguous asks into a concrete plan and translate between business goals and technical reality for both the client and your team.
- Partner with sales and delivery leads on scoping, SOWs, and estimates, and mentor the engineers around you on technical decisions.
- Leave clients more capable than you found them: document, hand off, and enable their teams rather than creating dependency.
What we're looking for
- 5 years of mid-large sized backend engineering or systems architecture, hands-on experience building and deploying GenAI/LLM systems (RAG, agents, fine-tuning, evaluation) at production scale.
- A consulting or client-services background: you've billed time, scoped engagements, and owned client relationships or have experience as a solutions architect/pre-sales engineer.
- Executive presence: you can lead a call with a client's C-suite or VPs, handle pushback, and build trust with non-engineers.
- Comfort with ambiguity: you make good decisions with incomplete information and balance rigor against what's practical.
- Excellent English communication: you can explain a complex system to a non-technical audience and write clearly enough to act on.
- Solid software and data fundamentals: APIs, cloud platforms, data pipelines, and integration with systems like data lakes, CRMs, and ERPs.
Nice to have
- Experience deploying AI in regulated or large enterprise environments (security reviews, data privacy, on-prem or VPC constraints).
- A track record of being the person clients ask for by name on the next project.
- Familiarity with Financial / Wealth Management Services.
