We’re looking for an experienced Sr. Field Engineer to support rural broadband expansion and oversee the design, staking, and field documentation of aerial and underground outside plant networks.
What You’ll Do
- Work in the field and office performing OSP engineering and design
- Design and stake new OSP construction, upgrades, and modifications to existing aerial/underground facilities
- Secure right-of-way easements and coordinate directly with property owners
- Apply for and manage DOT permits for assigned work orders
- Produce accurate field notes and convert them into staking sheets using AutoCAD or similar software
- Develop copper and fiber cable counts, layouts, and assignments
- Assist with field inspections, verify contractor work, and complete as-built documentation
- Validate OSP acceptance testing for outside plant, toll, and carrier facilities
- Maintain and verify documentation of power-company pole attachments
- Coordinate project schedules and ensure work meets company and RUS specifications
- Follow established engineering procedures and support additional tasks as needed
What You Bring
- Associate degree or equivalent experience
- 3–5 years of broadband outside plant engineering or field experience
- Working knowledge of GIS, AutoCAD, GIS data management, fiber records, and network records systems
- Ability to obtain notary certification
- Strong understanding of OSP engineering, construction standards, and industry regulations
- Familiarity with copper and fiber cable counts and assignments
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
- Ability to read and interpret staking sheets, work orders, schematics, and technical specifications
- Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and maintain high attention to detail
- Ability to utilize a variety of tools to complete daily tasks such as computer, tablet, GPS unit and test meters
Additional Information
- Valid driver’s license required; operation of company vehicle
- Ability to complete work standing, walking, climbing, lifting, and in adverse weather conditions
- Daily travel within assigned region and other company locations with occasional extended travel and possible overnight stays
- Overtime, night work during maintenance windows, and outage response as needed
Salary : $65,000 - $75,000
