We are seeking an experienced Fiber Optic Splicer / Inspector with strong expertise in fiber installation, fusion splicing, testing, and troubleshooting across both inside plant (ISP) and outside plant (OSP) environments. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with high-count fiber cables, OTDR testing, and field deployments.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform fiber installation, fusion & mechanical splicing, and optical equipment handling
- Work with single-mode fiber cables (up to 864 count), including loose tube and ribbon fiber
- Conduct OTDR testing, analyze trace results, identify faults, and calculate splice loss
- Perform end-to-end fiber testing using light sources and power meters
- Read and interpret fiber schematics and splice diagrams
- Install and splice fiber from handholes/manholes to buildings
- Support indoor fiber installations (ceilings, risers, tight spaces)
- Participate in cutovers and network turn-ups
- Work with fiber hardware including:
- Panels, splice closures, connectors (SC/LC, APC/UPC)
- Routers, switches, and optical equipment
- Complete service orders including:
- Building conversions
- Fiber and equipment assignments
- Assist with conduit, manhole, and handhole system work (preferred)
Field & Operational Requirements
- Work standard 40-hour week emergency/after-hours dispatch
- Operate and take home a bucket truck (up to 40 ft work height)
- Travel to job sites daily; overnight travel may be required
- Work in outdoor environments, confined spaces, and elevated areas
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 5 years of telecom field experience (ISP & OSP fiber splicing required)
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- Fusion splicing & testing tools
- OTDR trace analysis
- Fiber attenuation calculations
- Knowledge of:
- Fiber infrastructure design and schematics
- Optical networks and field deployments
- Ability to troubleshoot fiber faults and performance issues
- Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in physically demanding conditions
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with manhole, conduit, and fiber network construction design
- Exposure to network hardware (routers/switches)
- Telecommunications-related degree or certifications
