Outside Plant Technician (OSP Technician) / Low Voltage Technician
Position Overview
We are seeking experienced Low Voltage / Outside Plant (OSP) Technicians to support commercial structured cabling and telecommunications projects across a variety of environments including schools, hospitals, manufacturing facilities, office buildings, and new construction sites. Technicians will work alongside experienced project leads to support installation, testing, and troubleshooting of low voltage cabling infrastructure.
The ideal candidate will have 1–2 years of hands-on experience in structured cabling, cable pathway installation, data closet buildouts, and copper/fiber termination and testing.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and prepare cable pathways and install j-hook supports for structured cabling systems.
- Pull, route, and secure copper, coaxial, and fiber optic cabling in commercial environments.
- Build out IDF/MDF data closets including installation of:
- Ladder racks
- Cable trays
- Data racks
- Rack-mounted equipment
- Terminate Cat6/Cat6A data jacks and install faceplates at station locations.
- Route, dress, and terminate Cat6/Cat6A cabling onto patch panels.
- Test and troubleshoot copper cabling installations using Fluke and other testing equipment.
- Assist with fiber optic testing using power meters and light sources.
- Read and interpret construction drawings and cabling pathway documentation.
- Maintain compliance with project specifications, building codes, company standards, and best practices.
- Utilize approved grounding, bonding, and fire-stopping methods and materials.
- Maintain a safe work environment and comply with all PPE and jobsite safety requirements.
- Support project leads and existing installation crews on active commercial projects.
Required Qualifications
- 1–2 years of experience in low voltage, structured cabling, or telecommunications installation.
- Experience pulling and terminating Cat5e/Cat6/Cat6A cabling.
- Familiarity with IDF/MDF buildouts and cable management practices.
- Basic understanding of fiber optic cabling and testing procedures.
- Ability to read construction prints and follow installation specifications.
- Experience using hand tools and cable testing equipment.
- Strong understanding of commercial jobsite safety standards.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable transportation to and from jobsites.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in schools, hospitals, manufacturing plants, or commercial office environments.
- BICSI certification or related low voltage certifications preferred.
- Experience with ladder rack installation, cable tray systems, and rack integration.
- Familiarity with grounding/bonding standards and fire stopping practices.
- Experience supporting large commercial construction or upgrade projects.
Schedule Options
Technicians may be assigned to various active project crews and shifts including:
- Standard Day Shift: Start times between 6:00 AM – 7:00 AM
- Afternoon Shift: Start times around 2:00 PM
- Night Shift (Project Specific): 7:00 PM – 5:00 AM
All shifts begin and end at assigned jobsites.
Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening
- Composite toe work boots required
- Must provide own hand tools
