What are the responsibilities and job description for the Experienced Carpenter / Residential Construction Professional position at NextGen Environmental?
Experienced Carpenter / Residential Construction Professional Leadership Opportunity | $22–$30 per Hour Based on Demonstrated Ability
NextGen Environmental & Construction Group is seeking an experienced residential construction professional who wants more than just another job.
We are looking for someone who understands how homes are built, takes pride in quality workmanship, solves problems without constant supervision, and wants to build a long-term career with the opportunity to become a Crew Leader.
This is NOT an apprentice position.
If your construction experience consists primarily of helping on a few small projects or doing occasional handyman work, this position is probably not the right fit.
Who We Are
NextGen Environmental & Construction Group is a growing specialty contractor serving the Finger Lakes region of New York and Northern Pennsylvania. We specialize in:
- Radon Mitigation
- Basement Waterproofing
- Crawlspace Encapsulation
- Mold Remediation
- Foundation Repair
Our reputation has been built on quality workmanship, professionalism, and doing the job right the first time. We invest in our employees, provide modern equipment, and promote from within whenever possible.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for someone with real, hands-on residential construction experience who understands how homes are built.
The right person doesn't just know how to swing a hammer—they think ahead, solve problems, stay organized, take ownership of their work, and take pride in leaving every job better than they found it.
Our ideal candidate has:
- Five or more years of full-time residential construction experience
- Experience in framing, remodeling, roofing, foundations, concrete, waterproofing, HVAC, plumbing, or similar skilled trades
- A solid understanding of residential construction methods and how homes are built
- The ability to accurately read a tape measure
- Experience safely and efficiently using power tools
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability
- The ability to identify problems and develop practical solutions without constant direction
- A valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Pride in producing high-quality work
- Professional communication with homeowners and coworkers
- Naturally organized work habits that keep tools, materials, and jobsites clean and efficient
- The desire to build a long-term career—not simply collect a paycheck
This Position Is NOT For You If

- You're looking for temporary or seasonal work.
- You need constant supervision.
- You exaggerate your construction experience.
- You don't enjoy physically demanding work.
- You're uncomfortable working outdoors, on ladders, or in crawlspaces.
- You believe "good enough" is good enough.
Compensation
$22–$30 per hour, based on demonstrated ability—not simply years claimed on a résumé.
Exceptional candidates with proven leadership ability and strong construction experience may receive a higher starting wage.
Benefits
- Year-round employment
- Paid holidays
- Paid vacation
- Company uniforms
- Modern tools and equipment
- Ongoing training in specialized construction systems
- Advancement opportunities into Crew Leader and field leadership positions
Our Hiring Process
We value experience—but we verify it.
Qualified candidates should expect:
- A detailed discussion about previous construction projects they have personally completed
- Technical questions related to their experience
- A practical skills evaluation
We're looking for professionals who can demonstrate not only their construction knowledge, but also their ability to solve problems, stay organized, communicate professionally, and take ownership of their work.
Before You Apply
If you've spent years working in residential construction, take pride in your craftsmanship, show up every day ready to work, and want to become an important part of a growing company, we'd like to meet you.
If you're looking for "just another job," we're probably not the right fit.
