Job description
Behavioral Health Nurse will work with our Intensive Outpatient clients in a welcoming, empathic, hopeful attitude towards addiction and supports a philosophy of recovery and relapse prevention. Engages and welcomes clients in ways that will convey respect for diversity in a culturally appropriate way. Demonstrates high professional/ethical standards and works well with others as part of the treatment team. Understanding of the population and provides clients with the tools for low risk of relapsing.
Responsibilities
- Conduct initial patient assessments to develop nursing diagnoses and care plans.
- Facilitate group therapy sessions and individual counseling.
- Monitor patients’ progress and adjust care plans as needed.
- Educate patients and families about mental health conditions, treatments, and coping strategies.
- Collaborate with other members of the treatment team to coordinate care.
- Administer medication and monitor patients for side effects.
- Provide crisis intervention and support to patients in distress.
- Perform discharge planning to ensure continuity of care after discharge.
- Keep detailed records of patients’ symptoms, progress, and treatment.
- Advocate for patients’ rights and best interests
- Identify risk factors and warning signs for suicide and other self-destructive behaviors.
- Respond to emergency situations appropriately.
Skills
The ideal candidate should possess the following skills:
- Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Ohio (required).
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) .
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in behavioral health, mental health, or substance use disorder treatment settings.
- Experience working with clients in Intensive Outpatient (IOP) or residential treatment programs preferred.
- Strong assessment and diagnostic skills, including the ability to recognize withdrawal symptoms, mental health crises, and medication side effects.
- Ability to administer medications safely and monitor for therapeutic and adverse effects.
- Experience with medical documentation, ICD coding (ICD-9, ICD-10), and CPT coding.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with diverse populations.
- Strong documentation skills and proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Compassionate, patient-centered, and culturally sensitive approach to care.
- Strong ethical standards and professional integrity.
Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
