EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

 Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Health, and Environmental or Certified Safety

Professional (CSP) from Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP).

 Minimum 5 years of construction safety experience on industrial, manufacturing, infrastructure, or large commercial construction projects.


LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:

 OSHA 510 – Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry (Primary)

 OSHA 511 - Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry (Secondary)

 OSHA 2045 – Machinery and Machine Guarding Standards

 OSHA 2264 – Permit Requiring Confined Space Entry

 OSHA 3095 – Electrical Standards

 OSHA 3115 – Fall Protection (Train the Trainer preferred)

 OSHA 7115 – Lockout/Tagout

 First Aid, CPR, AED, and BBP certifications

 Valid Virginia Driver’s License


ESSENTIAL PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION:

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Safety Specialist to support the Genesis

Project construction and installation activities in Chesapeake, Virginia. The position will then transition as part of the safety department for the manufacturing operations at the facility. The Safety Specialist will work directly under the direction of the Safety Manager and will be responsible for promoting a proactive safety culture, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements, and supporting safe execution of construction and equipment installation operations.


The successful candidate will possess strong construction safety knowledge, experience on large-scale industrial construction projects, and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with contractors, supervisors, and project management teams during complex installation phases.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Regulatory Compliance:

Ensures that General Contractor (GC) and subcontractors are compliant with all construction

activities as they apply to Federal, State, and local policies to include, but not limited to OSHA

(VOSH), ANSI, NIOSH, and Department of Labor.

 Work Permits:

Inspect, Approve, and manage all site work recordkeeping and permits to include JHA’s, NHO,

Hot Work, Confined Space, LOTO, Electrical Work, Lifting and Rigging, Working at Heights, and

Daily Permits to Work. Assist in maintaining all LS Greenlink compliance recordkeeping

programs.

Site Audits:

Perform multiple site walks and observations, inspections, and audits of all industrial equipment

installation activities within the construction site daily. Draft and submit reports of non-compliance

daily. Track and ensure response to all submitted Non-Conformance (NC) reports.

JHAs and Pre-Shift Meetings:

Participate in pre-task planning, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs),

and risk assessments with GC and all subcontractors on site daily.

 Incident Response and Reporting:

Investigate incidents, near misses, property damage events, and unsafe conditions; assist with

root cause analysis and corrective actions.

 Installation / Operations Oversight:

Provide safety oversight during equipment installation, rigging, critical lifts, material handling,

commissioning, and startup activities.

 GC and Subcontractor Records:

Review all GC and subcontractor safety documentation including safety audits, weekly & monthly

reports, New Hire Orientations (NHOs), Equipment and Tool Inspections, Lifting and Rigging

Inspections, Fire Suppression Inspections, Monthly Emergency Drills, Monthly GC/Subcontractor

Safety Meetings, Weekly GC/Subcontractor safety lead(s) meetings.

 Other Duties:

Perform other EHS or related duties as assigned by management.

Physical Requirements

 Ability to walk extensive distances throughout a large construction site.

 Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms.

 Ability to work in varying weather conditions.

 Ability to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally.

 Ability to wear required PPE, including hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirators,

fall protection equipment, and steel-toed footwear.


COMPUTER EQUIPMENT AND SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS:

 Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
