MOST IMPORTANT

  • Confirmed Data Center Experience: Must include more than basic cabling.
  • Technical Skills: Please add this (Linux and Windows Server installation) as a desired experience on the checklist.
  • Hardware Skills: Proficiency in rack/stack, server provisioning, and hardware integration.
  • Role Alignment: Candidates must be seeking long-term alignment with a technician-level role.
  • Education Level: Avoid overqualified candidates (such as those with Master's degrees) to minimize flight risk.


Job Summary

The Data Center Technician plays a vital role in maintaining the data center infrastructure that keeps the Taylor operations running. You will be responsible for the physical installation, maintenance, monitoring, and management of servers, storage, and networking equipment. This role requires a proactive approach to incident response, inventory management, and adherence to strict security and operational protocols.


Responsibilities:

  • Perform physical hardware installation, maintenance, monitoring, and management for servers, storage, and networking equipment.
  • Handle "rack and stack" duties for servers, switches, and other hardware as needed.
  • Assist with cabling and ensure proper cable management.
  • Power & Environment: Monitor Data Center and Telecommunications Rooms for environmental data (humidity, temperature) and power usage via Smart PDUs or SAS-provided systems.
  • Perform regular equipment audits, manage spare parts, and maintain organization in storage rooms.
  • Respond to and attend to problems, malfunctions, or equipment breakdowns within the data center environment.
  • Monitor and respond to security alerts, enforcing data center security policies and access controls.
  • Utilize the ticket handling process to follow the SOW within Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Aid in troubleshooting issues where requested and implement solutions approved by the SAS Sponsor.
  • Perform regular system updates and patching for designated systems (e.g., DCIM, Power Management) where approved.


Qualification:

  • 1-3 years of Data Center experience.
  • Experience with rack-mounting servers, storage, and network devices.
  • Proficiency in PDU and sensor installation.
  • Experience with Data Center inspections, reporting, and equipment tracking.
  • Clear oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and close-loop on tasks without guidance.
  • Strong task management skills (scheduling, tracking, prioritizing).
  • CompTIA Server , CompTIA Network , CCNP, or A preferred.
