Position Title: Science Teacher - Grades 7 or 8
School of Vacancy: Newtown Middle School
Starting Date: 2026-2027 School Year
Salary Range: Per Newtown Federation of Teachers Contract
Responsibilities: Newtown Middle School is seeking two dynamic, student-centered Science Teachers for
Grades 7 and 8. Successful candidates will join a collaborative six-person
interdisciplinary team committed to academic excellence and fostering a positive,
inclusive middle school culture. Responsibilities include the following:
- Design and implement engaging, inquiry-based learning experiences that emphasize
- Deliver high-quality science instruction aligned to the Next Generation Science
- Contribute to interdisciplinary team goals and collaborate in shared planning,
- Maintain an organized, positive, and structured classroom environment that supports
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
- Perform additional professional responsibilities consistent with district expectations.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have:
- Current Connecticut Science Certification (K–8, 4–8, or 7–12) and a Strong
- Commitment to contributing to a high-performing district culture focused on both
- Deep understanding of adolescent development and its impact on curriculum,
- Technology expertise to enhance student understanding and engagement.
- Evidence of expertise in working with children in a heterogeneous classroom
setting and ability to differentiate instruction including the use of small group
instruction strategically.
- Effective classroom management skills that promote high expectations and
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
