JOB SUMMARY:

Performs administrative clerical work of routine difficulty in the collection and recording of property and ad
valorem taxes and/or the sales of vehicle tags. Performs administrative clerical work of routine difficulty
involving typing, filing, data entry, answering telephones and other general clerical duties. Provides
information to departmental staff and the general public; operates various office equipment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (All responsibilities may not be performed by all incumbents.)

Processes routine tag/title applications and collects fees and ad valorem taxes.

Assists customers at the counter; receives cash, checks, money orders, etc. from customers, confirms
correct amount of payment due using computer records or paper files and provides receipt; records
payments; balances cash drawer against tax payments, corrects any errors; processes refunds due to
overpayment of tax bills.

Opens tax payments received by mail; checks bills for accuracy and arranges in numerical order; stamps
paid and mails receipts; records payments following office procedures.

Researches and/or assists in research and preparation of notices to delinquent tax payers, identifying
property and taxes due.

Attends to routine problems concerning tag/title applications or fees; assists customers with problems and
completes necessary forms to accomplish issuance of tag/title; refers more difficult problems to Tax/Tag
Technician II or to supervisor.

Types letters, memos, charts, labels, reports, or other correspondence on a word processor or typewriter.

Answers phone, takes messages, screens calls, provides information to callers, receives citizen
complaints, and directs calls and messages to appropriate person.

Answers emergency and non-emergency call from the public, transfers calls or directs calls to other
county departments.

Greets visitors and the general public, assists them with information or answering questions.

Schedules appointments, meetings, or reservations at the request of staff.

Picks-up, sorts, and delivers mail; presorts first class mail and prepares for mailing; processes express
mail and federal express packages.

Opens, stamps, sorts, and distributes incoming mail.

Enters and retrieves a variety of routine and complex information into a computer terminal; uses the
computer system to retrieve a variety of daily, monthly and yearly reports.

Files and retrieves documents in an orderly fashion so that materials can be easily located.

Photocopies reports, charts, memos, and other various documents for staff.

Files and processes documents for court as required.

Serves as liaison with other County personnel to assist department.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

General Office Equipment Multi-line Telephone Postage Machine



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

All candidates to fill a vacant position in this classification must submit to and pass a drug-screening test
after meeting the following minimum requirements:

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED; and,

Six months to one year of progressively responsible related experience; or,

Any combination of education, training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills,
and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Licenses and Certifications:

None.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of:

Policies, procedures and departmental operating standards in area of assignment.

Recordkeeping, report preparation, filing methods and records management techniques.

Correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary.

General office procedures, policies and practices, as well as basic knowledge of computer/VDT and other
general office equipment.

Applicable state, federal and local laws, rules and regulations.

Computer applications related to the work.

Skill in:

Using tact, discretion, initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines.

Analyzing and resolving office administrative situations and problems.

Researching, compiling, and summarizing a variety of informational and statistical data and materials.

The use of a typewriter and/or word processing software and equipment and the ability to type at 45 wpm.

Tax/Tag Technician I

Operating and routine maintenance of general office machines such as copiers, facsimile machines
(FAX), and telephone systems.

Using a computer terminal of personal computer to enter and retrieve information accurately and
efficiently.

Communicating orally with internal staff, citizens, and other departmental staff in order to give and receive
information in a courteous manner.

Mental and Physical Abilities to:

Read general office correspondence with comprehension.

Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers.

While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to use hands to
finger, handle, or feel objects, to reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.

While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is occasionally required to lift and/or
move up to 10 pounds.

Working Conditions:

Works in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with
changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt and the like.

The incumbent's working conditions are typically moderately quiet.
