Newton Christian School Licensed Middle School Teacher          ELA/Math

Newton Christian School is seeking a caring and motivated 5th-8th grade full time Middle School ELA/Math Teacher to join our Christ-centered learning community.

REPORTS TO: Principal/Head of Schools

POSITION TYPE: Full-time, Salary

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

1. Spiritual Leadership and School Culture

The teacher serves as a Christian role model for students, families, and colleagues.

Obligation to God

  • Demonstrate a personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Live a life that honors God and reflects Biblical values.
  • Maintain agreement with the Scriptures and the Newton Christian School’s statement of faith.
  • Maintain a regular devotional life of prayer and scripture reading.
  • Model Christ-like character, including love, joy, patience, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness, self-control, and truthfulness.
  • Make decisions consistent with Biblical principles.
  • Demonstrate humility, responsibility, integrity, and a servant’s heart.

2. Commitment to Students

  • Establish a classroom climate of love, care, and respect rooted in God’s Word.
  • Teach and model courtesy, responsibility, and Christ-like behavior.
  • Help students develop self-discipline through consistent expectations, correction, and encouragement.
  • Provide clear behavioral guidelines and appropriate consequences.
  • Teach students to view all of life from a God-centered perspective.
  • Encourage students to glorify God in their learning, relationships, and conduct.
  • Provide organized learning experiences that encourage cooperation and mutual support.
  • Show genuine care for the spiritual, academic, and emotional development of each student.
  • Provide vision and direction for strong academic programming aligned with Newton Christian School’s mission and student outcomes.
  • Ensure curriculum and instruction reflect both academic excellence and a Biblical worldview.
  • Oversee implementation of instructional planning that connects faith and learning across subject areas.

3. Partnership with Parents

  • Recognize parents as having God-given authority and responsibility for their children.
  • Communicate regularly and clearly about student progress, needs, and concerns.
  • Maintain confidentiality in conversations regarding students and families.
  • Partner with parents in supporting student growth and development.
  • Respond to parent questions and concerns in a timely, respectful, and Christ-like manner.

4. Instructional Planning and Preparation

Teachers are expected to:

  • Translate school-wide student outcomes into clear, age-appropriate learning objectives.
  • Select and use curriculum materials that support both academic excellence and Biblical integration.
  • Plan lessons and units that help students see wholeness and relevance in learning.
  • Connect Biblical principles to all areas of study.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse learning styles and needs.
  • Help students see the order, beauty, and integrity of God’s creation.
  • Plan assessments in advance to measure student understanding and growth.
  • Maintain organized lesson plans and classroom materials.

5. Professional Growth and Collaboration

Teachers are expected to:

  • Take responsibility for classroom management, instruction, and communication.
  • Pursue ongoing professional and spiritual growth.
  • Stay current in best practices in education, subject-area knowledge, and Christian education philosophy.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and administration.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school events.
  • Reflect on teaching practices and seek improvement.
  • Articulate how Christian faith informs teaching and classroom practice.

Qualifications

  • A personal commitment to Jesus Christ and agreement with the school’s statement of faith.
  • A desire to serve in Christian education and disciple students.
  • Bachelor’s degree in education (teaching license required)
  • Strong classroom management, instructional, and communication skills.
  • Ability to integrate faith and learning.
  • Willingness to collaborate and grow professionally and spiritually.
