Job Overview
Newport Polo is hiring Beverage Servers to join our Pavilion team on Saturdays during the Newport International Polo Series. Beverage Servers manage a section of tables, taking drink orders, serving guests, and delivering an exceptional hospitality experience in a fast-paced, outdoor event setting.
Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of beverage service for a section of 7–10 tables
- Greet guests promptly upon arrival at your tables and remain attentive throughout the event
- Take drink orders at the table and enter them into the point-of-sale system for the bartender to prepare
- Deliver drinks to guests and provide menu recommendations as needed
- Check customer IDs to verify legal drinking age
- Monitor customers for signs of intoxication and take appropriate action
- Manage customer tabs and process payments via cash or card using the POS system
- Clear tables throughout the shift
- Complete setup procedures, including cleaning coolers, wine buckets, and service trays; stocking coolers with ice, water, soda, and other non-alcoholic beverages; refilling cup, straw, and napkin dispensers; cleaning work stations; and preparing garnish trays
- Complete closing procedures, including clearing all tables, emptying coolers, storing unused non-alcoholic beverages and supplies, storing service trays and wine buckets, cleaning work stations, and entering tips
Qualifications
- Proven experience in food service or restaurant environments, preferably with fine dining or nightclub settings
- Strong knowledge of POS systems such as Aloha POS or Micros POS
- Excellent customer service skills with a friendly, energetic attitude
- Ability to manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with upselling techniques to maximize sales opportunities
- Familiarity with food handling, sanitation, and safety regulations in the food industry
- Previous host/hostess or serving experience is a plus, especially in hospitality or nightlife venues
- Basic math skills for cashiering and cash handling tasks
- Culinary experience or kitchen background is advantageous but not required
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends
Schedule
Every Saturday from June through September. Shifts run 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM in June, July, and August, and 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM in September. This is a seasonal, part-time, weekends-only position.
