Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must possess:

• Current Virginia DCJS Jailor Certification (Required)
• Virginia DCJS Court Security Certification (Preferred)
• Virginia DCJS Civil Process Certification (Preferred)

Applicants without current Virginia DCJS Jailor Certification will not be considered.

What You'll Do

As a Lieutenant, you will provide leadership and operational oversight for one of Virginia's largest correctional facilities while supervising staff, mentoring Sergeants, and ensuring safe, efficient, and professional operations.

Responsibilities include:

• Supervising correctional operations during assigned shifts.
• Providing leadership, coaching, and mentorship to Sergeants and Deputy Sheriffs.
• Ensuring compliance with agency policies, procedures, and accreditation standards.
• Conducting inspections and maintaining operational readiness.
• Managing staffing levels, scheduling, and post assignments.
• Reviewing reports and documentation for accuracy and completeness.
• Evaluating employee performance and identifying professional development opportunities.
• Responding to emergencies and assuming command of critical incidents.
• Maintaining a visible leadership presence throughout the facility.
• Promoting accountability, professionalism, teamwork, and employee development.
• Working collaboratively with command staff to improve operations and strengthen organizational performance.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Eligibility Requirements

• Must be at least 21 years of age
• Must be a United States Citizen
• High School Diploma or GED required
• Current Virginia DCJS Jailor Certification required

REQUIREMENTS

• Must be a citizen of the United States.
• Requires an acceptable background check and acceptable credit check.
• Meet all federal, state and local requirements to carry a firearm.
• Have never been dishonorably discharged from any of the armed forces of the United States.
• Requires a valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record.
• Have a High School Diploma or GED Certificate.
