Position Summary The Assistant Principal serves as an instructional and operational leader who supports the principal in fostering a safe, inclusive, student-centered, and academically rigorous learning environment. The assistant principal collaborates with faculty, staff, students, families, and community partners to promote student achievement, positive school culture, equity, and continuous school improvement. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instructional Leadership Support the implementation, supervision, and evaluation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices aligned with district and state standards. Assist in supervising and evaluating certified and non-certified staff in accordance with district policies and collective bargaining agreements. Promote high-quality instructional practices, student engagement, and innovative learning opportunities, including interdisciplinary and STEM-focused programming where applicable. Lead or support professional development initiatives and instructional coaching efforts. Analyze student performance data to support academic growth, intervention planning, and school improvement initiatives. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, inquiry, and reflective practice. Student Services and School Climate Promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive school environment that supports the academic, social-emotional, and behavioral success of all students. Administer student discipline in a fair, restorative, and consistent manner aligned with district policies and state regulations. Support attendance improvement initiatives, student intervention systems, crisis response, and behavioral support programs. Collaborate with school counselors, special education staff, social workers, nurses, and outside agencies to support student needs. Oversee student activities, assemblies, athletics, co-curricular programs, and school events as assigned. Build positive relationships with students and families while maintaining high expectations for conduct and achievement. Operational and Organizational Leadership Assist with daily school operations including supervision schedules, transportation issues, emergency procedures, and facility management. Coordinate and support school safety planning, emergency response protocols, and compliance with federal and state requirements. Assist in development and monitoring of school budgets, resources, and operational systems. Support implementation of district initiatives, strategic planning, accreditation efforts, and school improvement plans. Serve as acting principal in the absence of the principal. Ensure compliance with district policies, New Hampshire Department of Education regulations, and applicable federal laws. Family and Community Engagement Foster strong partnerships with families, community organizations, and postsecondary institutions. Communicate effectively with stakeholders regarding student progress, school expectations, and school initiatives. Represent the school positively within the broader community. Support community-based learning opportunities, college and career readiness initiatives, and partnerships that enhance student experiences. Qualifications Education and Certification Master's degree in educational leadership, school administration, or related field required. New Hampshire certification or eligibility as principal or assistant principal required. Experience Minimum of five years successful teaching experience preferred. Prior leadership experience in a secondary school setting preferred. Experience with supervision and evaluation of staff preferred. Demonstrated experience supporting student discipline, school culture, and instructional improvement. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong knowledge of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and school improvement practices. Understanding of adolescent development, restorative practices, and social-emotional learning. Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders. Ability to analyze data and make informed decisions. Commitment to equity, inclusion, and positive school culture. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced educational environment. Proficiency with educational technology systems and data platforms. Physical and Environmental Demands Ability to move throughout the school building and campus. Ability to respond effectively during emergencies and crisis situations. Occasional evening and weekend responsibilities required for school events and activities. WORKING ENVIRONMENT The work environment is primarily a school setting with occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions and a moderate noise level typical of schools. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 260-day position Eight-hour day; additional hours may occasionally be required Successful completion of criminal background check required Evaluation shall be conducted annually by the building principal in accordance with district procedures.
