What are the responsibilities and job description for the Yard Lead position at newcold?
As a Yard Operations Lead, you are the key link between operations and the drop yard. You will be responsible for supporting a team of yard operators, managing/auditing the yard inventory, upkeep of all areas of commercial traffic both on site and off, while maintaining and managing the material handling equipment, doing minor repairs as needed, you will review and manage the YMS shuttle activity. While overseeing the yard operations, you will also ensure that Health & Safety protocols are embedded.
Responsible for the proper execution of the logistics activities and the support of the yard site.
Maintain a safe work environment. Manage the daily yard activities and foresee and communicate any issues and or concerns to the Yard Supervisor. Ensure SOPs are followed each shift.
Daily communication with clients and carriers by sending morning report emails to all carriers and clients
Manage our yard inventory through YMS
Audit and verify that empty and loaded trailers are in the correct spots.
Oversee/Conduct trailer movements to and from the dock to the drop yard.
Conduct yard inspections daily.
Own the drop yard.
Maintain cleanliness of the yard
Optimize efficiency in yard movements.
Core Tasks
Manage fuel levels of refer units in the yard.
Coordinate filling of refer units if necessary.
Conduct necessary billing activities.
Support yard drivers and ensure proper staffing including the training of new employees
Cover employee time off as necessary
Promote safety.
Daily communication and engagements with office personnel to administrate yard tracking and movements.
