What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sailing Office Assistant position at New York Yacht Club?
The NYYC Sailing Office internship
is a seasonal position starting approximately June 1st and
going through approximately August 31st.
Dates may be adjusted depending on availability. The Sailing Office intern is
responsible to assist the Sailing Office staff in the planning and execution
of all sailing and cruising related activity for the New York Yacht Club,
including working during regattas on specified weekends. This is a
service-providing position with an emphasis on direct interaction with the membership, including volunteer committees involved in running the events,
non-members participating in the Club's sailing events and staff at Harbour
Court.

• Working knowledge of Microsoft
PowerPoint a plus;
• Sailing experience helpful;
familiarity with sailing regattas;

in powerboat operation a plus;
• Writing and proofreading skills a
plus;
• Photography skills and the ability
to put together a slide show a plus;
• Experience and understanding of
major social networking sites a plus;
• Experience with website design and maintenance a plus.
Specific responsibilities are as follows,
but not limited to:
• Working approximately 40 hours/week
including many weekends (with weekdays off accordingly). A specific schedule
will be determined designating hours and which weekends will be required.
• Greeting visitors to the Sailing
Office; controlling the flow of visitors into the office;
scheduling appointments for the Sailing Director and other staff as necessary.
• Assisting with preparation for
specific regattas which may include: inventories, copying, preparing regatta
bags, organizing Race Committee and Jury materials, etc.
• Taking photographs; posting on web;
preparing slideshows.
• During Team Race Events, the SO
Intern will work closely with the Event Chair and Bo'sun to create a post-event
report of all damages including the party responsible and the cost of repairs.
• Coordinating with the Special
Events staff on social events as necessary.
• Answering telephone (providing
answers, taking messages, forwarding calls as necessary) The Sailing Office Intern reports
directly to the Racing Coordinator
