Under the general supervision of the Professional Engineer (Civil), SG-24, the incumbent may perform journey-level work in the primary trade of heavy equipment operation. Duties may include both skilled and semi-skilled tasks, ensuring operational efficiency and adherence to safety standards. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
Minimum Qualifications
Four years of full-time experience in heavy equipment operation under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.

Duties Description
Under the general supervision of the Professional Engineer (Civil), SG-24, the incumbent may perform journey-level work in the primary trade of heavy equipment operation. Duties may include both skilled and semi-skilled tasks, ensuring operational efficiency and adherence to safety standards. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Operate and maintain a variety of construction equipment, including but not limited to: tractors with lowboy trailer, heavy dump trucks, front end loaders, skid steer loaders, backhoes, rollers, excavators, and bulldozers.
- Change oil, fuel, spark plugs, air and hydraulic fluids; check fluid levels, tire pressure, safety devices and control mechanisms of machines prior to operation.
- Perform maintenance and repair of infrastructure, including, water/wastewater, storm drainage, electrical systems, plumbing, and related infrastructure.
- Perform project planning and coordination, layout procedures, blueprint reading, and purchasing.
- Conduct inspections to diagnose issues and determine corrective actions associated with equipment and/or job-related activities.
- Operate and maintain a variety of hand tools, equipment, and vehicles necessary to complete assigned tasks.
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations and codes.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) related to assigned job tasks.
- May perform medium to heavy manual labor as part of daily tasks. Must be physically able to lift up to 60 pounds.
- Collaborate with other staff, contractors, and vendors to complete work efficiently.
- Complete work orders, track materials used, and document progress in maintenance systems.
- May supervise subordinate staff or assist with training.
- The incumbent will also be expected to be deployed to perform work during emergency events as directed by the State Emergency Management Operations Center and/or NYS OPRHP management.

- Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)*** that allows the candidate to legally operate commercial vehicles in New York State and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
- Must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
- Must understand safety practices and regulations for all aspects of operation.
- Must be qualified and medically cleared to wear a respirator.
- Must possess essential skills in problem solving, critical thinking and decision making.
- Must travel to parks throughout the region to meet operational needs.
- Under the provisions of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (1991), this position has been designated Safety Sensitive. The candidate is required to participate in pre-employment, random and post-accident drug and alcohol testing.
