Secure Care Treatment Aides care for patients with severe and persistent mental illness within an OMH secure intensive treatment unit or forensic facility. Additional duties include:
Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (NY HELPS) program as a Secure Care Treatment Aide 1 (SCTA 1) if they have a high school diploma, High School Equivalency Diploma, or similar equivalency such as a General Education Development (GED) Certification or higher degree.
OR
Candidates within State Service can be considered for transfer to a competitive class position if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

Posted hiring rate includes the sum of the statutory hiring rate for ISU ($47,695), an Increase Hiring Rate ($6,144) and Geographic Pay Differential ($6,000), and Downstate Adjustment ($4,000). The posted job rate is the sum of the statutory job rate ($58,447), Geographic Pay Differential ($6,000), and Downstate Adjustment ($4,000).

- Observe and monitor patients
- Apply therapeutic techniques to stabilize patients
- Record notes on patient behaviors
- Apply physical restrains to patients as ordered by physician
- Maintain a secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff
Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (NY HELPS) program as a Secure Care Treatment Aide 1 (SCTA 1) if they have a high school diploma, High School Equivalency Diploma, or similar equivalency such as a General Education Development (GED) Certification or higher degree.

- You must be able to communicate and follow oral and written instructions and directions in English in order to perform the duties of the position.
