The New York State Department of Labor’s Office of Communications is seeking a Public Information Specialist 2 (Digital Content) to join its Marketing team. This role requires a candidate with strong project management and coordination skills, including the ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects from initiation to completion. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional writing and proof-reading abilities, coupled with proven experience in managing news media relations and digital content.

  • Collaborate with the leadership of the Office of Communications to manage multiple projects simultaneously from inception to completion.
  • Oversee the entire lifecycle of multiple communication projects, ensuring timely and satisfactory delivery.
  • Partner effectively with leadership, as well as internal and external stakeholders, to achieve project objectives.
  • Develop and manage project schedules and timelines, identifying and tracking all key milestones.
  • Draft content as needed for projects, including but not limited to: campaign messaging guides, web content, promotional ad copy, and video scripts.
  • Facilitate and manage the final production process, including scheduling, coordinating client approvals, and proof-reading the final product.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Seven years of experience in public relations, social media, and digital communications. Associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degree in Communications, English, Public Relations, Social Media, Digital Communications, or similar degree, substitutes for two, four, or five years, respectively;

OR one year of experience as a Public Information Specialist 1 (Digital Content).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. You must submit at least three writing samples that showcase your skills (news releases, op-eds, digital content scripts, speeches, etc.).
  • Two years related experience helping to plan and manage the implementation of assigned communications projects.
  • NYS government experience a plus.
  • Experience working with local and national media outlets.
  • Excellent creative and institutional writing skills.
  • Ability to lead and/or participate in team endeavors.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize a busy workload to meet tight deadlines.
  • Proven attention to detail, while retaining the ability to see the bigger picture.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Proven work experience developing and delivering informative, well-written messaging.
  • Ability to initiate and maintain relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders.

Additional Comments

Position specific job duties may include occasional altered work schedule or job assignments which require availability and willingness to work occasional evenings and/or out-stationed assignments.

Candidates with no previous state service will begin at the starting rate of the salary range listed above.

Employment at the Department of Labor is contingent upon the maintenance of a valid work authorization and necessary documentation to work legally in the United States.

Please note: Due to operational requirements and funding considerations of various divisions/positions, there could be occasions in the future where unit assignments may change. Should this occur, it will not impact your title, salary or location.

Salary : $86,681 - $109,650
