Duties Description
Under the direct supervision of a Plant Utilities Engineer, the Plant Utilities Assistant will support the operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, electrical, and control systems responsible for providing heating, hot water, ventilation, and air conditioning. Responsibilities include assisting with the maintenance and repair of boilers, pumps, controls, auxiliary power plant equipment, as well as electrical and mechanical stationary systems.

Minimum Qualifications
Transfer Opportunity: NYS employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service as a Plant Utilities Assistant (G-9) or Boiler Inspector (G-14) and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate should be familiar with the specialized needs of a health-related and/or laboratory facility. The candidate should have a solid understanding of energy conservation methodologies applicable to laboratory facilities, including laboratory capital equipment, commercial HVAC systems, high-pressure steam, and related ancillary equipment. Candidate should also be familiar with arc flash and lockout-tagout procedures.

Since exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved in these positions, the candidate who accepts the position may be required to wear personal protective equipment, undergo pre-employment and periodic health evaluations, and receive specific immunizations. Possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted NYS motor vehicle license. May be required to obtain Department of Environmental Conservation certifications related to site-specific facility operation. This is a 24/7 shift operation – shift assignment is subject to bidding based on DOH-Wadsworth Seniority time and may be subject to change based on operation
Requirements. Overtime May Be Required.
