Duties Description
The Assistant Research Scientist will assist with performing public health DNA sequencing in the Advanced Genomic Technologies Cluster (AGTC). The incumbent will assist with the entire sequencing process from sample accessioning to review of the results. In addition, the incumbent will learn new methods and automated technologies as they are developed to continually improve sequencing services. The incumbent will perform other appropriate related duties.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Non-Competitive: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Natural Sciences and one-year post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field.
Substitution: 30 graduate hours leading to an advanced degree in an appropriate field may be substituted for the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Sanger and next generation sequencing. Familiarity with use and maintenance of liquid handling robots and Illumina sequencers. Experience working in a clinical laboratory and familiarity with quality control measures.

This position will require the incumbent will meet all Federal requirements for staff who perform clinical testing, including the educational requirements.
