The New York School of Design (NYSD) is seeking an experienced and industry-active 3D Fashion Design Instructor to teach FAD301: 3D Fashion Design. This course introduces students to professional 3D garment simulation using Browzwear VStitcher and focuses on digital garment creation, rendering, pattern manipulation, and tech pack development.
We are looking for an educator who is passionate about the future of digital fashion and can guide students through both technical execution and creative development within a 3D environment.
Course Overview
This 45-hour course builds on students’ prior training in fashion textiles, sewing, patternmaking, and digital design. Students learn to design, simulate, render, and present garments using industry-standard 3D software.
Key course topics include:
- Introduction to Browzwear VStitcher (interface, file types, workflow)
- Digital garment creation and simulation
- 3D trims, graphics, fabric manipulation, and texture mapping
- Colorways and rendering for presentation
- Pattern drafting and manipulation in 3D
- DXF file importing and block development
- Parametric avatars and garment fitting
- Capsule collection development
- Tech pack creation and file organization
- Stylezone uploads and digital presentation workflows
Students complete projects including graphic t-shirts, color-blocked dresses, silhouette revisions from basic blocks, full capsule collections, and professional tech packs.
Responsibilities
- Deliver instruction in 3D garment design using Browzwear VStitcher
- Demonstrate live workflows including stitching, arranging, simulating, and rendering garments
- Guide students through digital pattern manipulation and garment construction
- Provide technical and creative feedback on student projects
- Support students in developing a final capsule collection presentation
- Evaluate student work based on course learning outcomes
- Maintain organized digital file workflows and demonstrate best practices
Qualifications
- Professional experience using Browzwear VStitcher (required)
- Strong understanding of garment construction and patternmaking
- Experience creating digital tech packs and rendered presentations
- Knowledge of DXF import workflows and 3D garment simulation physics
- Teaching experience preferred (college-level a plus)
- Strong communication and critique skills
- Ability to teach in-person – midtown Manhattan
