Job Description

Major Accountabilities / Critical Responsibilities

  • Provides operational oversight and support for the Security Management Program across all Stamford Health locations and serves as the department representative on relevant organizational committees.
  • Assists in the development, implementation, monitoring, and enforcement of departmental and organizational security policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with applicable safety, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.
  • Oversees the identification and access control process for employees, physicians, volunteers, contractors, and vendors, ensuring appropriate access based on clinical and security needs. Interfaces with Oracle systems to manually transfer data to the access control platform as required.
  • Serves as the Access Control System Coordinator, responsible for system administration, troubleshooting, access level management, time zones, privilege levels, reporting, and photo ID badge production. Ensures timely, cost-effective maintenance and repair of access control systems.
  • Participates in the preparation and management of departmental budgets, including expense tracking, purchasing activities, development of purchase requisitions and purchase orders, and maintaining supporting financial documentation.
  • Coordinates parking assignments and oversees contracted parking and valet vendors to ensure operational efficiency, customer service standards, and compliance with organizational requirements.
  • Assists in the coordination and oversight of related safety programs, including the Environment of Care Inspection Program, Hazardous Materials Management, disaster drills, and emergency preparedness activities. Recommends corrective actions and ensures timely completion.
  • Supports implementation of department objectives and provides direct supervision to Security staff to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and performance standards.
  • Conducts Security-related new employee orientation and provides ongoing in-service training and education for Security Officers as needed.
  • Manages Security staff performance, including hiring support, onboarding, scheduling oversight, training compliance, coaching, corrective action, and annual performance evaluations.
  • Protects incident scenes and evidence during accidents, emergencies, and investigations by securing areas, setting up barriers and signage, and providing direction to staff and responders.

  • Prepares incident reports, logs, and documentation using appropriate grammar and professional writing standards. Reviews security logs and takes corrective action as required.
  • Observes, investigates, and reports safety or security incidents and suspicious activity to leadership, life safety personnel, or public safety authorities in accordance with policy.
  • Responds to fires, medical emergencies, bomb threats, hazardous materials incidents, flooding, elevator emergencies, inclement weather, and other emergency conditions following established procedures.
  • Ensures the secure and compliant removal of property in accordance with organizational policies; monitors activity to identify potential loss-prevention concerns.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred, with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in security and safety operations, preferably in a healthcare environment.
    OR
    Associate’s degree with a minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in healthcare safety and security may be substituted.
  • Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of Access Control Management experience required; CCure 9000 experience strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in parking, valet, and transportation services operations preferred.
  • Prior staff supervisory or management experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of HIPAA, PHI, and confidentiality requirements; must exhibit a high degree of integrity and discretion in handling sensitive information.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent problem-solving, negotiation, verbal, listening, and written communication skills; ability to prepare professional reports and presentations.
