What are the responsibilities and job description for the Alarm Technician position at New York Fire & Security?
New York Fire & Security is a family-owned fire protection and life safety company that has served the Capital Region, Adirondacks and North Country since 1946. We install and service fire alarm, security and kitchen fire suppression systems for businesses, schools, municipalities, healthcare facilities and homes. We’re looking for an experienced alarm technician who takes pride in doing the job right.
What you’ll do
- Install, program and commission fire alarm and security systems in commercial and residential buildings
- Perform annual inspections and testing to NFPA 72, and complete accurate inspection reports
- Troubleshoot and repair panels, field devices, wiring faults, ground faults and communication problems
- Upgrade monitoring communicators from phone lines to IP and cellular
- Work with customers, general contractors and fire inspectors to keep systems in compliance
- Do site surveys and give input on system design and quoting
- Respond to service calls, including some on-call rotation
What we’re looking for
- 2 years of hands-on experience installing or servicing fire alarm or security systems
- Experience with conventional and addressable fire alarm panels (Fire-Lite, Notifier, Silent Knight, Ademco Vista, DMP or similar)
- Working knowledge of NFPA 72 and the NEC as they apply to alarm systems
- Ability to read and work from blueprints, riser diagrams and wiring diagrams
- Comfortable with a meter and finding faults in the field without hand-holding
- Ability to work on ladders and lifts, in attics and in crawl spaces
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
A plus
- NICET Fire Alarm Level I or II (or working toward it)
- Experience with access control, CCTV or intrusion programming
- Experience with cellular and IP communicators
