POSITION SUMMARY 
The Group Leader is the primary front-line staff member responsible for the direct supervision, safety, and engagement of a specific cohort of participants. Working under the guidance of the Content Specialist and Activity Specialists, the Group Leader builds positive relationships with students, facilitates daily activities, and ensures a supportive environment that fosters social-emotional and academic growth.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Direct Supervision & Safety
  • Supervise a specific group of participants, ensuring strict adherence to School Age Child Care (SACC) staff-to-student ratios at all times (1:10 for Elementary; 1:15 for Middle School).
  • Maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment, actively monitoring student behavior and interactions.
  • Escort participants during transitions between activities, arrival, dismissal, and bathroom breaks, ensuring headcounts are conducted regularly.
2. Activity Facilitation & Engagement
  • Implement age-appropriate activities and lesson plans created by the Content Specialist or Activity Specialists in areas such as STEAM, Literacy, Arts, and Physical Recreation.
  • Assist students with homework and academic support tasks during designated "Homework Help" sessions.
  • Facilitate "structured" and "unstructured" play, ensuring all students are actively engaged and included in the program.
  • Support specialized programming offered by the organization, such as Chinese Cultural Art, Robotics, or ESL support, by assisting Activity Specialists as needed.
3. Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) & Mentorship
  • Serve as a positive role model, fostering healthy relationships and peer-to-peer mentoring among participants.
  • Implement the program’s Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum strategies to help students manage emotions, build self-confidence, and resolve conflicts constructively.
  • Identify participant needs or behavioral changes and report them to the Program Director or Inclusion Coordinator for appropriate support.
4. Administrative Duties
  • Accurately record daily attendance and assist with the collection of required program data.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and required professional development trainings (minimum 15 hours annually) to enhance skills in youth development and safety.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
  • Minimum Age: Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required; an Associate’s degree (or progress toward one) is preferred.
  • Experience: Must have at least two (2) years of direct experience working with children under age 13 years.
Required Skills
  • Ability to lead and supervise groups of children effectively.
  • Basic content knowledge in general academic subjects to support homework help.
  • Strong communication skills to interact professionally with parents, school staff, and program leadership.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in Mandarin, Spanish, or Russian is a strong plus, given the demographics of District 25.
WORK SCHEDULE
  • School Year: Monday – Friday, typically 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM (Part-Time).
  • Holidays/Summer: Availability for full-day shifts (8:00 AM – 6:00 PM) during school holidays and summer programming is required based on the program calendar.
