Position Summary

The Group Leader is responsible for supervising and engaging a group of elementary or middle school students during afterschool program hours. This role includes facilitating enrichment activities, assisting with homework, promoting positive behavior, ensuring student safety, and creating a welcoming environment where every child feels supported and encouraged to succeed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and actively engage a designated group of students throughout the program.
  • Build positive, respectful relationships with students, families, and staff.
  • Lead daily activities including homework help, literacy, STEM, arts and crafts, recreation, games, and team-building exercises.
  • Encourage student participation, creativity, and collaboration.
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Implement positive behavior management strategies aligned with program expectations.
  • Take daily attendance and monitor student arrival and dismissal procedures.
  • Assist with snack distribution while following health and safety guidelines.
  • Support students' social-emotional development through positive interactions and conflict resolution.
  • Prepare activity materials and maintain organized classroom spaces.
  • Communicate student progress, concerns, and achievements with supervisors.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development.
  • Assist with family engagement events, field trips, and special program activities.
  • Follow all Department of Health, Department of Education, and organizational policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Education, Child Development, Social Work, Recreation, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with elementary or middle school-aged children in an educational, recreational, or youth development setting.
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Must successfully complete all required background checks and clearances.

Pay: $21.00 per hour
