Position Summary
The Group Leader is responsible for supervising and engaging a group of elementary or middle school students during afterschool program hours. This role includes facilitating enrichment activities, assisting with homework, promoting positive behavior, ensuring student safety, and creating a welcoming environment where every child feels supported and encouraged to succeed.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and actively engage a designated group of students throughout the program.
- Build positive, respectful relationships with students, families, and staff.
- Lead daily activities including homework help, literacy, STEM, arts and crafts, recreation, games, and team-building exercises.
- Encourage student participation, creativity, and collaboration.
- Maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
- Implement positive behavior management strategies aligned with program expectations.
- Take daily attendance and monitor student arrival and dismissal procedures.
- Assist with snack distribution while following health and safety guidelines.
- Support students' social-emotional development through positive interactions and conflict resolution.
- Prepare activity materials and maintain organized classroom spaces.
- Communicate student progress, concerns, and achievements with supervisors.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development.
- Assist with family engagement events, field trips, and special program activities.
- Follow all Department of Health, Department of Education, and organizational policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Education, Child Development, Social Work, Recreation, or a related field preferred.
- Experience working with elementary or middle school-aged children in an educational, recreational, or youth development setting.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Must successfully complete all required background checks and clearances.
Pay: $21.00 per hour
