About Us:
New York Center for Child Development (NYCCD) is a dynamic special education preschool dedicated to excellence in the education and treatment of young children with special needs. We are currently seeking a New York State Certified Teacher Assistant to join our Special Class in an Integrated Setting (SCIS) preschool classroom, which includes both general education and special education students.
Schedule:
- Full-time: 8:15 AM – 3:45 PM (includes lunch break)
- School Year: September–June
- Summer Program: 6 weeks (July and 2 weeks in August)
Responsibilities:
- Engage with students at their developmental level throughout the day.
- Support the implementation of classroom curriculum and assist in meeting children's IEP and curriculum goals.
- Promote independence and higher-level thinking through open-ended questions and interactive discussions.
- Collaborate and participate in team meetings.
- Assist the teacher in preparing and organizing daily classroom activities and materials.
- Monitor children's needs and report unusual occurrences to the teacher.
- Consistently implement classroom and behavior management strategies (e.g., stating expectations, offering positive alternatives, and using "I" messages).
- Assist children with bathroom routines, including diapering and toileting, using universal precautions.
- Help children during snack and lunch times while engaging them in conversation.
Qualifications:
- Valid NYS Teacher Assistant Certification (Level I, II, or III) – Required
- Fluent in Spanish – Required
- Experience working with preschool-aged children or children with special needs is preferred.
