Salary Range: $105,000 - $125,000
General Responsibilities:
The Database Administrator (DBA) is lead database technical employee, and is responsible for the overall operation and support of a primarily SQL Server database environment. The current database environment includes various SQL Server databases, supporting finance/human resources systems, student information, web sites, and other applications running on Microsoft SQL Server. The DBA is responsible for maintaining our current databases, including documentation, security, and backups. The DBA will also work collaboratively with other Enterprise Application team members to develop new databases or adjust current databases to add or improve functionality.
This position includes access to confidential employee, financial and student data, and requires discretion and confidentiality.
Qualifications:
- Degree in computer science, information technology or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of three years experience in Microsoft SQL Server database administration; experience with .NET development beneficial.
- Proficiency with transactional SQL, SSIS, ETL and reporting tools such as SSRS and Power BI.
- Experience with cloud data warehouse platforms like Snowflake is preferred.
- Experience in database design, including table structures, relationships, indexes and performance tuning.
- Strong understanding of standard relational database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
- Familiarity with Python or similar scripting languages for automation and data processing is preferred.
- Experience with data management, data flowcharting techniques, and documentation.
- Ability to complete multiple, complex projects; multi-task; meet frequent deadlines.
- Ability to develop a strong understanding of how HR, finance, student and other data support the operation of the school district.
- Ability to work both independently and in teams, demonstrate exemplary interpersonal skills, communicate clearly with staff, students, parents, and the public and be customer-service oriented.
- Ability to demonstrate confidentiality in accessing confidential employee, financial, and student data.

Position Expectations:
Database Management
- Oversee SQL Server Database setup, configuration, maintenance, and optimization.
- Design and document database architecture.
- Design, maintain, and develop the district's internal data warehousing platform.
- Build database schema, tables, procedures and permissions.
- Evaluate and recommend new database technologies and tools.
On-going Operation
- Design, create, implement and maintain SSIS packages.
- Design, create and develop dashboards/reports using tools such as SSRS, Power BI , Snowflake and PowerSchool Analytics and Insights.
- Restore data from backups when required to recover data or support testing and development.
- Coordinate with the other members of the technology team on upgrades, maintenance, support, and backups.
- Provide constant support for critical situations; monitor systems proactively for availability, while working to minimize downtime.
Data Security & Compliance:
- Implement data security protocols, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and data privacy regulations.
- Implement and manage Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) policies to secure sensitive data and manage permissions.
- Monitor and maintain database security and provide for security auditing on critical systems, especially as it relates to the school’s HR and financial management systems.
- Perform regular audits and assessments of SQL and Snowflake security configurations and user access.
- Develop and enforce standards for data transformation, quality, and governance.
- Collaborate with the Network Team to support secure data handling and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Maintain system passwords with approved district password encryption standards
- Use of AI tools must be reviewed and approved supervisor
Monitoring & Performance:
- Develop and maintain automated monitoring solutions for SQL environments to track usage, performance, and security.
- Set up alerts, notifications, and dashboards to monitor SQL resources, usage, and issues.
- Tune and optimize complex SQL queries and Snowflake database structures for performance
- Automate routine administrative tasks and data load processes to improve operational efficiency.
- Provide constant support for critical situations; monitor systems proactively for availability, while working to minimize downtime.
Support and Collaboration
- Provide advanced database technical expertise to the development team in support of their role maintaining the district’s websites and custom applications.
- Provide advanced database technical expertise to colleagues automating processes via workflow automation software.
- Provide advanced database technical expertise to team managing financial, human resources, and student information systems.
- Develop documentation of current database environment, including database schemas, stored procedures, and interactions with other internal and external systems
- Collaborate with other team members to design, build, and maintain efficient data pipelines for data ingestion, transformation, and integration within SQL and Snowflake.
- Work with other stakeholders such as Assistant Principals in identifying their data requirements and implement an efficient solution
