We are looking for a multiple Life Skills Coaches to join our Support team!
WHAT IS SLS?
Supportive Living Services is a program designed to provide in-home and community-based assistance to adults with developmental disabilities who live in their own homes and want to make their own choices. At New Start SLS, we believe that individuals thrive when they make their own choices about where they live, work, and how they spend their time and resources. By taking control of the choices that control their lives, people with developmental disabilities can better direct their own futures. Through patience, guidance, encouragement and Person-Centered Planning, we support the individuals we serve to develop the confidence and skills they need to make meaningful choices, reach self-set goals, as well as experience fulfillment and greater independence.
CURRENT OPENING:
We are looking for support staff in multiple locations, including Placerville and Shingle Springs. All openings have the opportunity to pick up additional hours on call. There is also potential flexibility to be combine openings in various locations for additional hours. Further details to be discussed during interview process.
- IHSS* Saturday 3:30pm - 9 pm (Shingle Springs)
- IHSS* Saturday 8 am - 3 pm
- SLS Saturday Overnight 11 pm - 7 am
- SLS Tuesday 4 pm - 10 pm
ABOUT THE ROLE:
As Support staff, each shift offers new experiences and the reward of knowing you’ve made a difference. In this position, a few examples of the type of work you will be doing may include assisting the individual with: learning daily skills and activities, menu planning, grocery shopping, cooking, budgeting, cleaning, using public transportation, making and attending appointments, volunteering, and participating in social leisure activities.
Other duties include, but are not limited to:
- Staff will be sensitive to the ethnic, lifestyle, and cultural diversity of our consumers and their circle of support. Staff will encourage, and help achieve consumer success.
- Provide in-home and community based assistance to consumers according to individual service programs set up by Alta California Regional Center and New Start SLS.
- Reporting of issues and concerns regarding consumers to New Start Case Manager.
- Attending in-service training sessions when offered and complete required assigned continued education monthly.
- Documenting of daily charting notes.
- Some of the individuals we support use electric or manual wheelchairs, receive assistance with adaptive equipment for transfer, and may require personal care assistance (ex: toileting, bathing, brushing teeth, wound assistance).
- We are helping an individuals find their IHSS support staff. If not already certified, candidates must be willing to complete certification as part of the hiring process. Pay rates for IHSS El Dorado County shifts are set by IHSS. As of January 2026, the pay rate for IHSS in El Dorado County is $17.40 per hour.
- Pay Rate (s): Shingle Springs $19.00-20.00 per hour and Placerville $22.00 per hour
SLS QUALIFICATIONS PRE-REQUISITES:
- Must be able to speak, read, and write English.
- Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent GED.
- Staff must be able to work with and support individuals who have disabilities and have at least 1 year of paid or volunteer experience supporting individuals with disabilities. This may include caregiving, teaching, coaching, tutoring or personal lived experience.
- Some individuals we serve may require staff transportation support. Support staff eligible to drive clients must be eligible and willing to use their personal vehicle during employment. Eligibility requires review and maintaining copies of valid CA driver’s license, current insurance, and clean DMV record with the office.
- Completion of a satisfactory Live Scan DOJ Background Check.
- Before Orientation staff must show evidence of a Negative TB Test and a Clear Physical Exam from within the last year.
- Before Orientation staff must show proof of current CPR and First Aid Certification from an in-person or hybrid based course.
