Job Overview
Join our team as a Substitute Bus Driver and become a vital part of ensuring safe, reliable transportation for students with disabilities at New Road School. Whether covering for our regular driver or filling in during busy times, your energetic and responsible approach will keep our transportation services running smoothly. THIS IS A PER DIEM POSITION.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate 24 passenger school bus or 9 passenger van to transport passengers according to scheduled routes or special requests
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all passengers
- Conduct pre-trip inspections of the vehicle to verify mechanical soundness and report any issues promptly
- Keep daily log of all trips and turn into main office monthly
- Follow all traffic laws and safety regulations while maintaining punctuality and professionalism
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing passenger needs courteously and assisting with boarding and disembarking
- Maintain accurate logs of trips, passenger counts, and any incidents or mechanical concerns during shifts
Qualifications:
- Current New Jersey Motor Vehicle Operator’s (DMV) license
- Current New Jersey Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), class B with passenger, school bus, and air brake endorsements
- Current Medical Examination Report for CDL Fitness Determination
Skills
- Proven experience in bus driving, commercial driving, or school bus driving with a valid CDL driver’s license appropriate for the vehicle type
- Experience working with children with disabilities
- Excellent behavior management skills to ensure passenger safety and order on board
- Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively while following safety protocols
