We are seeking a compassionate, motivated Full-Time Outpatient Counselor to join our Behavioral Health team. This position will have a primary focus of working with our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), supporting individuals experiencing substance misuse and co-occurring mental health needs.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, or a related human services field preferred.
  • Must obtain tCADC (Temporary Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor) certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • A passion for supporting individuals in their recovery journey.

GENERAL SUMMARY: 

The behavioral health department supports, empowers and connects with individuals, families and communities so that healthy choices are made, and lives are changed.  The Outpatient Counselor will provide support and therapeutic services to clients suffering from substance use disorder, educate families in the best ways to help in the recovery process, and work with those participating in outpatient programs. Community outreach, early intervention, and recovery services are included in our care continuum.

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  1. Complete department orientation during introductory period. 
  2. Responsible to determine appropriateness of an admission with the assistance of Clinical Supervisor/Behavioral Health Director.
  3. Doing all required paperwork for admission.
  4. Doing competent and timely counseling with person either in group or individually.
  5. Completing all documentation of such work and completing of discharge summaries and state forms when the client leave the program for whatever reason in a timely manner.
  6. Responsible for client orientation.
  7. Responsible for making appropriate referrals for psychological or psychiatric evaluation and/or treatment.
  8. Marital, financial, or educational counseling and any other aspect that will enhance the client’s life through treatment.
  9. Responsible for performing all duties necessary to maintain the facility during their shift, including duties in other areas of responsibility as assigned.
  10. Responsible for maintaining public relations between the agency and community resources.
  11. Providing information on the range of substance use disorder and problem gambling services available in the community.
  12. Speaking engagements to assist with community awareness and consultation in the field of substance use disorder/problem gambling.
  13. Participate in the total Quality Improvement Plan as called for in the Plan. 

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, and ABILITIES: 

1.               Ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.

2.               Ability to obtain and maintain a driver’s license, automobile, and current valid insurance in order to travel to designation locations.

3.               Knowledge of Agency’s policies, practices and procedures.

4.               Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, and various other business and community contacts.

5.               Ability to work with confidential information.

6.               Ability to work in a team-based environment.

7.               Ability to adapt to the organization’s changing needs.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Prefer BA / BS degree with college level credit in Substance Use Disorder or its related fields of:  Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Human Services, or Criminal Justice; or Master’s level degree in social work, mental health counseling, or related field preferred. Must be certified by IBC or licensed by appropriate accrediting body within twelve months of employment.
