As a two-year branch community college, NMSU Grants serves the local communities in Cibola and McKinley counties, including the Pueblos of Acoma, Laguna, and Zuni, as well as Tohajiilee, San Mateo, San Rafael, Cubero, the City of Grants, and the Village of Milan.

Job Duties and Responsibilities: • Teach Automotive Technology courses in classroom, laboratory, hybrid, and online formats, including automotive systems diagnosis, maintenance, and repair.
  • Develop and deliver engaging, industry-relevant instruction that supports student achievement of course and program learning outcomes.
  • Maintain safe, organized, and effective laboratory environments, ensuring proper use and upkeep of equipment, tools, and instructional materials.
  • Assess student performance, provide timely feedback, and maintain accurate academic records in accordance with college policies.
  • Advise and mentor students regarding academic progress, career pathways, industry certifications, and employment opportunities.
  • Participate in curriculum development, program assessment, accreditation activities, and continuous program improvement efforts.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with local employers, advisory board members, and industry organizations to support workforce development and student success.
  • Engage in professional development, college governance, committee service, and other duties that support the college's mission and goals.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging automotive technologies, including electric and hybrid vehicles.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Campus Executive & Academic Officer to support the college's mission and goals.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the principles of operation and fundamental concepts in at least four of the following areas: Automotive Engines, Automotive Brakes, Electrical Systems, Engine Performance, Automotive HVAC, Steering and Suspension, Automatic Transmissions/Transaxles, and Manual Power Trains.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of automotive diagnosis, maintenance, repair procedures, and industry safety standards.
  • Ability to provide effective classroom, laboratory, and hands-on instruction using current automotive technologies and diagnostic equipment.
  • Knowledge of ASE standards, industry certifications, and workforce expectations within the automotive service industry.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and industry partners.
  • Proficiency with learning management systems, automotive diagnostic software, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Commitment to student success, workforce development, and continuous program improvement.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:
  • Associate of Applied Science degree in Automotive Technology or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • ASE Certifications (A1-A8) or the ability to obtain certification within one year of hire.
  • Two years of full-time professional experience in automotive service, diagnostics, repair, or the related automotive industry or two years of teaching experience in automotive education.
  • Demonstrated expertise in multiple automotive systems and diagnostic procedures.

Equivalent Qualifications:


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Automotive Technology, Career and Technical Education, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Community college teaching experience.
  • Experience developing and delivering workforce training programs.
  • ASE Advanced Level Specialist Certifications (L1, L3, or equivalent).
  • Experience with hybrid, electric vehicle, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) technologies.
  • Experience teaching online using Canvas or similar learning management systems.
  • Experience coordinating internships, apprenticeships, or industry partnerships.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Environment: Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.

Physical Effort: Moderate physical activity.

Lifting Requirements: Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.

Risk: Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
