Why does the job exist?
This position provides services related to the operation and maintenance of the high and low pressure steam and hot water boilers as well as maintain laundry equipment.
How does it get done?
Incumbent will operate/maintain high-pressure boilers daily and document appropriately. Perform daily inspection of equipment and will reduce and/or eliminate the hazards common to the trade and prevent the occurrence of safety problems.

Ideal Candidate
Ideal candidate will be certified with a Boiler Operator License.
Minimum Qualification
High school diploma or equivalent and six (6) months experience in the operation or maintenance of mechanical equipment to provide utilities for building and/or industrial processes, construction experience to include familiarity with application of building codes and regulations, basic electrical, plumbing, ventilation, maintenance, and/or custodial operations; building trade experience, or maintenance of mechanical equipment to provide utilities for building and/or industrial processes. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) months may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a Drivers License.
Must obtain a Defensive Driving Certificate.
Working Conditions
Walking, lifting, working in inclement weather, standing on ladders, working in confined spaces, at heights, indoors and outdoors; Requires good coordination, physical strength and endurance, hearing and sight and ability to communicate both written and verbal; Driving a motor vehicle is required; May be exposed to hazards of power equipment, dust, chemicals, fumes, boiler and high noise levels; Communicating and interacting with residents, staff and the public on a daily basis; Occasional travel for trainings or meetings is required; Individual is subject to 24-hour call and rotating weekends; Working hours may include weekends, holidays, callbacks and overtime. Essential functions of the job and physical ability requirements will be available at the time of interview or may be obtained at the New Mexico Veterans' Home Human Resources Office.
